Mawella Villa, Tangalle

Mawella consists of two separate villas located on a secluded stretch of beach in the fishing village of Mahawella near Tangalle. Many of the southern coves are ideal for swimming and surfing during the season from December to April. Tangalle can be reached via the south coast or coming form the hill country via Wellawaya. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take around six-and-a-half hours. Alternatively, jump aboard an Air Taxi service which flies to Dickwella, about 20 minutes from the villa.
Introduction
Mawella is set amidst lush tropical gardens that leads to the Indian Ocean beaches and consists of two self-contained villas that can be rented separately or as a whole. The villas have timber roofs, polished cement floors and verandahs that let you enjoy the tropical sun and the ocean breeze. The interiors are tastefully decorated with a blend of Dutch period antiques and contemporary touches. Mawella is an ideal holiday getaway for a friends travelling together or a family with children.

Accommodation
Main House:Consists of three double rooms furnished with four-poster beds and a fourth room where an additional single bed can be provided.  Ensuite bathrooms have twin vanities and open air h/w showers.  Up to seven guests can be accommodated in the main house.

Pool House:Has two double rooms furnished with four poster beds.  Ensuite bathrooms have open air h/w showers.  Four guests can be accommodated here.
Facilities
Main House:The spacious living and dining area opens to a front verandah with sea views as well as a back verandah alongside gardensscattered with tropical trees that attracts many birds and monkeys.  The dining room is furnished with an eight-seater table.  There is also a pantryequipped with kettle, crockery and cutlery, washer and dryer.

Pool House:  The Pool House is smaller and is set further back into the gardens and overlooks the swimming pool.  The dining room is furnished with a four-seater table.  The living and dining room here opens out to a front verandah opening out to the pool.

The swimming pool and gardens are shared by both houses.  A cook and housekeeping staff live on the premises and look after both houses.  The cook will prepare Sri Lankan cuisine and some western dishes and will also assist with grocery shopping.  Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages.  The beach right in front of Mawella is good for swimming and boogie boarding during the season.
Excursions
Based at Mirissa Harbour, Mirissa Water Sports offers several activities including whale watching, snorkeling, sailing, river trips, and sea kayaking. Mirissa Water Sports is a charitable organization helping to generate employment for the youth from the tsunami affected coastal areas. Visit Rekawa, a small fishing village near Tangalle where a fascinating Marine Turtle Conservation project is helping to save this endangered species. Visit the ancient Mulkirigala temple or the Wewurukannala Temple with its massive 165ft high Buddha stature. Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy an adventurous safari into Yala National Park which is one of the largest national parks in the island where elephant and leopard can be seen. The Bundala Bird Sanctuary with numerous varieties of endemic and migrant species is located about 45 minutes away.We also recommend a visit to Galle and its 17th century Dutch Fort. Much of the old Fort still remains with its well preserved bastions, public buildings, churches, lighthouse and a maze of narrow streets.
