Avian Breeze is a small five-bedroom guesthouse on a hillock just five kms from the old colonial hill station of Nuwara Eliya. Nuwara Eliya can be approached via Kandy or Hatton. The journey from Kandy will take about three hours.
Introduction
Avian Breeze was once a holiday retreat for Sri Lanka’s first prime minister, DS Senanayake. Wooden floors and fireplaces add a cozy touch to this holiday escape and the bedrooms have all modern conveniences. There is a small garden edged with colourful flower beds.

Accommodation
There a four bedrooms and one suite room all well furnished with king size beds. In-room facilities include flat screen TV with cable channels, tea/coffee facility, mini-bar, wifi internet, hair dryer and bathrobes. Electric heaters are available in each room for a cool night. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers. Some of the bedrooms open out to the gardens and have mountain views.

Sunshine Room: A family room that can sleep up to four guests, with two king-sized beds.

Rose Room: This room has a separate entrance and opens out to a private garden and its privacy makes it popular with couples on their honeymoon.

Garden Room: Opens out to the front gardens and mountain views.

Capital Room: Also opens out to the front gardens and has mountain views.

Governor’s Suite: This is a more spacious room with a fireplace and ensuite bathroom with a h/w shower and Jacuzzi.
Facilities
The small reception and lounge area has a fireplace. The dining room has seating for 25 guests. Sri Lankan and western cuisine is served. Snacks and drinks are also served in the garden. Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages. There are mountain bicycles for those wanting to explore the area.
Excursions
Learn about Ceylon Tea and its production with a visit the nearby Pedro tea estate and tea factory. Go bird watching, trekking, cycling and river fishing. Avian Breeze will organise a naturalist who can accompany guests on bird watching and nature trails. Experience Nuwara Eliya’s colonial architecture. Play a round of golf at the challenging 18-hole golf course of the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, designed by a Scottish soldier in 1889. The clubhouse and bar is an atmospheric place to enjoy a drink and meal after your round. Day’s excursions are possible to Hortain Plains and Hakgala Gardens. Other nearby activities includes boating in nearby Lake Gregory, visit to colonial period churches and the Sita Amman Hindu Kovil nearby.
