Ocean’s Edge is a beautiful beachside villa in the village of Kahandamodara, near Tangalle, in the deep south. Set on a sprawling 10 acre estate with tall tropical trees, this is an ideal holiday retreat for families. Kahandamodara is situated off the main southern A2 route and can be accessed along the south coast coming from Tangalle, 16kms away, or the southern highlands.Buttala foothills. Galle is about 2.5 hours form here.
Introduction
Ocean’s Edge is a lovely four-bedroomed villa in Dutch colonial style that is situated in a secluded and remote corner of this tropical island. It has high ceilings, cooling, polished cement floors, arched doorways, wide verandahs and a balconies with spectacular sea views. Swimming in the sea here is not possible due to undercurrents. Tangalle offers safer swimming, surfing and snorkelling.

The villa has stylish interiors furnished with Chinese and Dutch period antiques, comfortable sofas, art and sculptures. The ground floor consists of living and dining areas, TV lounge, one single bedroom and the kitchen. Two wooden staircases on either side of the house leads to the bedrooms on the upper floor and the wide balcony that wraps around the villa where hours can be spent taking in the sun and sea breeze.

Ocean’s Edge is rented as a whole and can accommodate up to nine guests. Ocean’s Edge is the sister property of Pooja Kanda in Koggala and Ambassador’s’ House in Galle Fort - all exquisite villas located along the south coast.

Accommodation
There are four bedrooms of which one is a single room located on the ground floor and the rest are all upstairs. Two of the bedrooms have interconnecting doorways and is ideal for a family. All bedrooms open out to the verandah or balcony and have lovely sea views. Bedrooms have a/c and overhead fans and are furnished with antique king size four-poster beds fitted with mosquito netting. One bedroom upstairs has two king-size four poster beds. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.
Facilities
The spacious living room opens on to the swimming pool at one end and the garden and sea views on the other. The dining room has seating for ten. Meals are also served in the verandah, balcony or by the poolside. There is a TV lounge equipped with a 42 inch flat screen TV, DVD player, and board games. Other villa facilities include wifi internet access, telephone, iPod dock, stereo with CD player, and swimming pool set amidst lush gardens that attracts many species of birds including peacock.

Guests can cook their own meals in the fully-equipped kitchen, or leave it to the in-house cook. Sri Lankan cuisine and some western dishes are prepared, using village vegetables and fresh seafood purchased direct. Breakfast is on the house and there is a choice of Sri Lankan or continental. Other meals are at cost price and the cook will be happy shop for groceries. Guests can bring their own alcohol. Ocean’s Edge has a team of staff including a manager, cook and housekeeper. A babysitter can be arranged with prior notice.
Excursions
Explore the gardens at Ocean’s Edge scattered with mango, tamarind and coconut trees. The nearby Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary and Ussangoda can be utterly rewarding for bird watching with numerous species. Visit Rekuwa, a small fishing village situated nearby, where a fascinating Marine Turtle Conservation project is helping to save this endangered species. Both Uda Walawe and Yala National Parks can be reached in less than two hours. For those seeking the sun and surf, Sri Lanka’s picturesque south coast beaches of Tangalle, Dickwella, and Weligama are ideal for swimming, snorkelling, surfing and diving. Whale and Dolphin watching is possible at Mirissa during the season from December to April. Visit the ancient Mulkirigala temple nearby which is perched on an enormous boulder more than 200m high. According to ancient inscriptions carved on the rock, Mulkirigala dates back almost 2,000 years when it was a site of a Buddhist monastery. The serene white Dagoba stands at the peak of the rock with magnificent coastal views.
