Ambassador’s House is one of the oldest properties within Galle Fort dating back about 300 years. This Dutch period house has been caringly refurbished and is now one of the more sought-after villas within Galle’s famous 17C Dutch Fort. Ambassador’s is centrally located on Lighthouse Street close to the historic sites, shops, art galleries, cafes and restaurants. Unawatuna’s sunkissed beaches are only 15 minutes away. The journey from Colombo’s International Airport will take a minimum of four hours or take the Air Taxi and fly to Koggala, which is a 15 minute drive to Galle Fort.
Introduction
The Ambassador’s House is a wonderful five-bedroom villa that has been carefully restored and refurbished by its English owners. The house is built on a long and narrow stretch of land and consists of two buildings that are connected by a central courtyard. The single storey building in front consists of the living and dinging areas while the two storey building at the back of the property houses the bedrooms. Much of the original architecture including courtyards and verandahs, arches and high ceilings and even the original 10 inch thick walls have all been retained. Interiors are tastefully furnished with exquisite Dutch period antiques and comfortable sofas. Take a stroll down the maze of narrow roadways and experience Galle Fort’s unique cultural heritage. Once back at the villa cool off with a dip in the plunge pool and relax with a chilled beer on the roof terrace.

Ambassador’s House is rented as a whole and can accommodate up to 10 adults and two children. Ambassador’s is the sister property of Pooja Kanda in Habaraduwa and Ocean’s Edge in Tangalle - all exquisite properties located along the south coast.

Accommodation
There are five bedrooms of which three are located on the ground floor and two on the upper floor. All the bedrooms are well designed and have a/c as well as overhead fans. Rooms are furnished with antique wardrobes and four-poster beds dressed in white linen. Ensuite bathrooms with h/w rain showers.

Ground Floor bedrooms: These three bedrooms are located at the back of the house and opens out to the plunge pool and garden.

Upper Floor Bedrooms: There is a lovely master bedroom with a private living space. Esuite bathroom has with twin vanities and even twin rain showers. Adjoining the Master Bedroom is another bedroom furnished with two four-poster double beds. Both these rooms open out to a roof terrace with sun loungers and a lounge pavilion with lovely views across the red tiled roofs of Galle Fort. These two rooms are ideal for a family. A baby’s cot is available.
Facilities
The spectacular living room spills out into the front verandah and garden and is ideal for entertaining. Walk through the central courtyard and into the dining room furnished with a table for eight. The dining room opens out to the back gardens and plunge pool. Meals are also served out in the courtyard or on the upstairs terrace pavilion which has built-in seating.

There is a fully-equipped kitchen. Guests can cook or use the services of an in-house chef. The cook can prepare traditional Sri Lankan cuisine and some western dishes. There is a choice of Sri Lankan or continental breakfast and that is included in the price. Other meals are at cost price and the cook will happily shop. Guests can bring their own alcohol.

Other villa facilities include wifi internet and telephone; TV lounge with a 42 inch flat screen TV with satellite channels, DVD player, iPod doc, CD player, books and board games. For those wishing to be pampered, a trained masseuse is available upon request. Ambassador’s can also organise special events such as a family celebration for upto 25 guests. Staff include a manager, cook, housekeeper, and caretaker. A babysitter can be arranged with prior notice.
Excursions
Lying within the walls of the 17th century Galle’s Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ambassador’s House is an ideal base from which to see life unfold each morning within the Fort. Hours can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and British period buildings still in use, the sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the growing collection of art galleries, antique shops, restaurants and boutique hotels. There are some fine beaches just outside of the Fort including Wijeya, Unawatuna, Mirissa and Hikkaduwa. Surfing is ideal at Unawatuna just a few minutes away from Galle Fort. A boat ride on Koggala Lake with its many islands is another wonderful experience.
