House of Joy is a spacious, three bedroom guesthouse located on Lighthouse Street within Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort. The house is centrally located nearby historical sites, museums, shops and cafes. Unawatuna’s sun kissed beaches are just 15 minutes away. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take about four hours which will be reduced considerably once the Southern highway is completed by the end of 2011.
Introduction
House of Joy is a refurbished, colonial-period house with high timber roof and verandah leading out to a small strip of garden. Interiors are spacious and comfortably furnished. House of Joy is rented by the room or as a whole and can accommodate up to six guests.

Accommodation
There is a double room and a master bedroom located on the upper floor opening on to a balcony and the garden below. The master bedroom is furnished with a king size four-poster bed and also has a separate sitting area. Both these rooms have a/c, overhead fans and ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers. The third bedroom located on the ground floor opens out to the living room and is furnished with a double bed. The ensuite bathroom here only has a sink and w/c and shares an upstairs shower. This bedroom is given out only when the entire house is booked by one party.
Facilities
The living and dining area opens out to the back verandah and garden. The dining room is furnished with an eight seater table. There is also a TV lounge on the mezzanine floor which looks down on to the living room and is equipped with cable TV. Sri Lankan and western cuisine is served here. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby serving a range of cuisine. Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages. House of Joy is staffed with a manager, cook and housekeeper.
Excursions
House of Joy is walking distance to the museums, shops, and cafes within Galle Fort. Take a walk along the maze of narrow roadways lined with Dutch and British period buildings still in use, the sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the lighthouse and the growing collection of shops and restaurants. Swimming, surfing and scuba diving is possible during the season form December to April in Unawatuna, Ahangama and Mirissa. Experience Unawatuna’s youthful lifestyle and the rustic beach bars and restaurants. Visit the Rhumassala Temple with beautiful views stretching out over the Indian Ocean. A walk around the headland near the temple is very special. Famed for the natural medicinal herbs nearby you will walk through hidden villages and verdant jungle valleys eventually finding yourself on "Jungle Beach"- a little-known and secluded beach. There are some fine beaches also in Mirissa and Hikkaduwa.
