Poya Villa is a four-bedroomed beach house situated on a secluded stretch of beach in the coastal village of Ahangama on the South Coast. Ahangama has picturesque coves and some of the best surf spots in the area. The historic city of Galle is less than half an hour’s drive away. The from Colombo’s international airport will take about 4.5 hours which will be reduced considerably once the Southern highway is completed by the end of 2011.
Introduction
Poya Villa is a two-storey beach house which was completed in July 2011. The villa is light and airy with cooling cement floors and large glass doors that open out to the garden and sea beyond. Interiors are furnished with Dutch period antiques painted in white and local art. There is no swimming pool but the sea here is wonderful for swimming and surfing during the season from December to April. Poya Villa can accommodate upto six adults and four children and is booked on a bed and breakfast basis.

Accommodation
The ground floor has two double rooms furnished with king-size built in beds. These two bedrooms open out to the garden and the sea beyond. Adjoining is a children’s room furnished with two bunk beds that can accommodate up to 4 children. The upper floor has another double room furnished with an antique four-poster bed. This room opens out to a small balcony with sea views. All four bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers. Other in-room facilities include a/c, overhead fans, and beds fitted with mosquito netting.
Facilities
The living room opens out to a verandah furnished with a 10 seater, round, antique dining table. There is an open plan kitchen with bar counter where you could also have your meals. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, cooker, and oven. Cook your own meals or have the in-house cook prepare Sri Lankan and western meals for you. Fresh seafood including prawns and crabs can be purchased directly from the local fisherman. Vegetables and other groceries are available from the nearby local shops. Poya Villa is equipped with wifi internet, electronic safe, 42 inch flat screen TV with satellite channels, DVD player, home theater system and a small selection of movies. Boogie boards and a beginner surf board are also available. There is a manager and cookthat stay in separate staff quarters.

Spend your day sunning on the sun lounges and taking in the sea breeze.
Excursions
Try your hand at stilt fishing which is a traditional method of fishing in these areas. Stilt fisherman can be spotted right in front of Poya Villa during the day. There are several challenging surf spots nearby. Based at Mirissa Harbour, Mirissa Water Sports offers exciting water sports activities such as sailing, fishing, coastal cruises, sea kayaking, snorkelling and boating. The south of Sri Lanka beyond Dondra is considered one of the best locations in the world for spotting blue whales, sperm whales and spinner dolphins. Whale watching excursions into the deep seas is organised by Mirissa Water Sports during the season from December to April when the seas are calm. We also recommend a visit to Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with narrow streets lined with Dutch and British colonial era buildings which are still in use, sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the lighthouse, and a growing collection of art galleries, shops, restaurants and several boutique hotels and cafes.
