Baramba is a contemporary three-bedroom guesthouse overlooking the Mahaweli River and surrounded by the Kandyan hills. It is situated in the suburbs of Kandy on Primrose Hill, 15 minutes from the city centre. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take about three hours.
Introduction
Baramba is a minimalist two-storey guesthouse set on a hillock with breathtaking river views. Enter via a steep staircase and onto the first floor where the three guest rooms, dining and lounge areas overlook the swimming pool and views beyond. The owners, a Swiss/Sri Lankan couple, reside on the second floor and provide a personalised service which includes sumptuous home cooked meals. Baramba has stone exteriors, spacious verandahs, large glass doors and windows, and light and airy interiors decorated with plush furniture and subtle infusion of colour. Rise at leisure and relax by the poolside or explore Kandy’s ancient cultural heritage. Baramba can comfortably accommodate up to six guests and is given out to only two parties at one time to enhance privacy. Due to the steep steps and the open feel of this house, Baramba is not recommended for those with mobility difficulties and children under 14 years.

Three spacious bedrooms open on to a verandah overlooking the garden, the river and surrounding mountains. The bedrooms are furnished with king-size beds. Ensuite bathrooms are well designed and have h/w showers.
Facilities
A small lounge area is equipped with a plush sofa, music system and plenty of books to read on a rainy day. There is a dining room and kitchen where guests can make their own coffee or tea. Guests are often invited to dine on the upper floor verandah taking in the scenic mountain views. Western menus are extensive and meals are prepared by the owner herself. Sri Lankan cuisine and light snacks are also on offer. Guests can bring their own alcoholic beverages. Other facilities include wifi internet, swimming pool, and binoculars for bird watching.
Excursions
Kandy is steeped in history, culture, and is surrounded by nature. Interesting activities include a visit to the Temple of the Tooth where a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined; Peradeniya Botanical gardens with its orchid collection and formally laid-out trees; nature walks in Udawatte Kelle Forest Reserve; and Kandy's rich ancient arts and crafts including drum making, Dumbara mat waving, and crafting Kandyan jewelry, and traditional Kandyan dance and drumming. The magnificent Victoria Golf and Country Club with its picturesque fairways, is also located nearby.
