The Adelphi is a stylish five-bedroom boutique hotel with a 1930s Art Deco ambience, perched on a hillock overlooking Bandarawala town at a distance. It lies off Poonagala Road, enroute from the southern highlands to the south coast.
Introduction
The Adelphi is a refurbished old property that was once used as a school during the colonial period. The British owners, who also own The Dutch House further up the hill, have transformed this old whilst retaining its 1930s architecture. The Art Deco interior includes steel fireplaces, vibrant colours, period furniture and large photos of film stars with the likes of Audrey Hepburn taking centre stage. Even the bedrooms are named after popular local cinemas such as the Liberty, Ritz, Regal, Savoy, and Majestic. The Adelphi offers a striking alternative in the hill country to refurbished planters bungalows. The Adelphi is not recommended for children below 10 years of age.

Accommodation
There are five bedrooms of which four (Liberty, Ritz, Regal & Savoy) are on the ground floor and the master bedroom, Majestic, is on the first floor. Bedrooms are decorated in vibrant colours and 1930s period furniture including king-size beds. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers, w/c, bidet, wash basin and heated towel rails.

Liberty: the Liberty is a twin room with the windows opening out to garden views. The single beds can be put together and an additional folding bed can be made available for a third guest.

Ritz: Has a large corner window with views onto the garden and king-size bed.

Regal: The Regal has a private patio that leads to the garden. Ensuite bathroom has a bath tub and shower.

Savoy: A spacious bedroom with garden and mountain views. Ensuite bathroom has a bath tub and shower.

Majestic: This is a spacious master bedroom located on the first floor and opens on to a private rooftop balcony with wonderful mountain views. The ensuite bathroom has a bath tub and double shower cubicle.
Facilities
There is a reception-cum-lounge area with a fireplace leading to the dining room. Meal times are special at The Adelphi with great care taken to cater to guests' preferences. Sri Lankan and Western cuisine is served prepared with fresh village vegetables and meats purchased from town. Other facilities at the Adelphi includes a study with wifi and laptop for guests to use and an extensive garden lined with flowering hedges - ideal for spending a peaceful morning or even having high tea.
Excursions
Stroll through a tea plantation and visit a tea factory where you will gain insight into the manufacturing process as well as an opportunity to taste and purchase the different grades of hill country tea. Climb to the Lipton's Seat, a favorite look out point of Sir Thomas Lipton, the tea pioneer when surveying the surrounding region for his tea plantation near Haputale. Adisham Monastery, modeled on Leeds Castle in Kent, is an interesting morning's excursion. Once the home of Sir Thomas Villers in the early 20th century, Adisham now is a Benedictine monastery with well cared for rose and vegetable gardens. Several waterfalls including Dunhinda, Diyaluma, and Ravana Ella are all located nearby in the towns of Haputale and Ella.
