Avani Kalutara Resort has a privileged position on Sri Lanka's west coast, where the broad Kalu Ganga meets the Indian Ocean, in the west coast. Kalutara is located just 1.5 hours south of Colombo. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take up to about 2.5 hours.
Introduction
Avani Kalutara is a mid-market beach hotel with flashes of boutique style and character. Its traditional design is brightened by a chilled-out atmosphere vibe and confident, modern fittings with polished wood floors and alluring touches. A position in coconut groves, between sea, river and lagoon gives it a unique location, and it makes the most of it. Good all-inclusive deals are available. Previously known as Kani Lanka.

Accommodation
There are 105 a/c bedrooms of which - 16 are Standard Rooms with courtyard views; 83 are Superior Rooms looking onto the lagoon or the sea; and six suites consisting of separate sitting area and most with sea views. All rooms have a private balcony or terrace. In-room facilities include satellite TV, DVD player, wifi internet, tea/coffee facility, and mini-bar. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.
Facilities
The Palm Restaurant offers international cuisine buffet style and the Saffron cafe has an a la carte menu and outdoor dining. Other hotel facilities include two bars, swimming pool, fitness centre, tennis, table tennis, snooker, indoor games, and library. The hotel’s water sports centre offers dinghy sailing, canoeing and windsurfing on the Kalu Ganga. The Amaan Spa offers an extensive menu of relaxing therapies including Ayurvedic massages and slimming treatments, body scrubs and polishes. Nightly entertainment emphasises soft music, such as sitar or saxophone players, and cultural shows.
Excursions
Take a boat ride along the tranquil Kalu Ganga past quaint rural villages, en route, visit the local markets, and the historic Kalutara temple. Lunuganga - a garden retreat that was created by Sri Lanka's iconic architect, Geoffrey Bawa is another interesting experience. The Lunuganga gardens were a life long project cherished by Bawa and designed with numerous varieties of foliage, many pavilions, and statues. The Kosgoda's Marine Turtle hatchery - a valuable conservation project that protects the endangered Marine Turtles of Sri Lanka is located nearby.
