"'This 145 year old grande dame of Colombo faces Galle Face Green to the north and the sea to the west. The sweeping stairways, high ceilings and grass courtyard buffeted by sea breezes look much the same as they did nearly 100 years ago. Just about everyone who visits Colombo shows up for a drink at the Veranda bar at some point, whether or not they stay at the hotel.'"

Location
The Galle Face Hotel, established in 1864, quickly won prestige as one of Asia's finest hotels. It possesses an unrivalled location in the capital, Colombo, on the edge of the Indian Ocean, at the foot of Galle Face Green and offers an appealing, colonial-style alternative to travellers seeking a change from standard five-star business hotels.
Introduction
The Galle Face, hailed as a masterpiece of Victorian architecture, retains the dignified and polite atmosphere that gave it such fame in the colonial age. Sympathetic renovations and refurbishments are helping to protect its historic status in more demanding times. Rooms have polished wooden floors and panelling and antique furniture, and few fripperies. The Seaspray restaurant, specialising in fish, is blessed by an ocean frontage. There is nowhere better for a primarily middle-aged and elderly clientele to watch a Colombo sunset than from its immaculate terrace and gardens.

The Galle Face Hotel (the older wing of the hotel) possesses: 34 standard rooms, facing the city or Galle Face Green; 21 deluxe rooms, with views of the ocean, Galle Face Green or the city; 5 executive suites and five royal suites, all with ocean views. All have 24-hour butler service, tv (BBC and local channels only), en suite, hairdryer, minibar, IDD phone.

Note: Both Galle Face and Galle Face Regency operate a 1.30pm check-in policy. Clients are advised that arrival before this time may cause a lengthy delay that is beyond our control. If a morning check-in is essential, you are recommended to book the previous night.
Facilities
A wide selection of restaurants and bars is headed by the Verandah Restaurant (western and Oriental cuisine), the Seaspray fish restaurant and the 1864 Room, a sedate fine-dining restaurant. The tranquillity of a pre-dinner drink on the verandah, as the sun retreats, has charmed many for more than a century, whilst the The Barista Deli and Inn on the Green British pub, accessed from Galle Road, attract a younger crowd. There is a wine lounge with underground wine cellar (designed for connoisseur's of fine wines, cheeses and cigars), snooker room, small museum and art gallery, extensive banqueting and conference facilities, business centre, laundry, childcare, small Piazza shopping arcade. Note: sports facilities are limited.
