Location
The Colombo City Hotel, which opened in August 2005, enjoys a central position on the edge of Colombo Fort, immediately opposite the World Trade Centre and close to the city's main five-star hotels.
Introduction
Searching for comfort in Colombo's budget sector can be a dispiriting business, but after substantial research in this end of the market, Red Dot has particular regard for Colombo City Hotel. The business traveller on a budget will be particularly attracted by the convenience and value of a relatively new hotel that remains in good order. This modest development may lack holiday-hotel amenities, such as a swimming pool or gymnasium, but it has a prime location and offers well-appointed, modern rooms at an appealing price.

A top-floor restaurant also now operates, offering breakfast and a limited menu. There is a 24-hour reception and non 24-hour room service. The bars and restaurants of the Hilton and Ceylon Continental, as well as snack bars in the world trade centre, are only a short stroll away.
Excursions
A trading hub of the ancient times, Colombo has a vibrant mix of cultural influences including Malay, Chinese, Arab, Portuguese, Dutch, and British. The Fort and Pettah, originally built in the sixteenth century by the Portuguese and then further developed by the Dutch and the British, is today the main commercial hub consisting of the country's largest wholesale bazaar with a maze of by lanes and small shops; banks, and government offices some which are housed in old colonial buildings; Dutch period churches and museum. Several ancient Buddhist temples, Hindu Kovils, churches, and mosques as well as museums, art galleries, bars and restaurants are all located within Colombo. For shopping there is the nearby Crescat shopping mall with several fast food outlets and shops, ODEL, Barefoot, and Paradise Road.
