'Wedamadura', meaning ‘the doctor’s home’ in Sinhala, used to be just that. The property was owned by an Ayurveda physician and his family for generations until it changed ownership in 2013. This ancient southern manor house, now beautifully refurbished, retains its traditional architecture including verandas, courtyards, archways, ornate columns and trellised windows. Interiors have been modernised with contemporary furniture, whitewashed walls, vibrant art and sculptures. The ground floor consists of two bedrooms and a living room which leads to an open-sided dining room and looks out to a cliff covered in lush tropical foliage. The upper floor has two more bedrooms, both with garden views. The villa is set on an extensive five acre garden with a swimming pool and meandering pond, backed by a steep cliff. Clamber to its summit and take in panoramic views over Mirissa’s harbour and Weligama Bay. Siri Wedamadura is rented exclusively to one party and can accommodate up to eight guests. Families with children are welcome.
