PATA Grand Award 2007
Jetwing’s Vil Uyana won the best-of-show PATA Grand Award in 2007 for its youth development Project which provides training in the hospitality field and English language training free of charge to school leavers from disadvantaged farming families in the Sigiriya area. The aims of the “We Dreamed a Dream’ scheme is to solve the human resources shortage in Jetwing’s properties, especially Vil Uyana in Sigriya; pass on some of the benefits of tourism to the local community; and provide gainful employment to the youth of the surrounding villages.
