Media Reviews
"'North of town on a beautifully groomed rise over looking the golf course, this was once a planters’ club. There are terraced lawns with white cast-iron furniture, and five-course European dinners are served in the dining room beneath a pressed-copper roof.'"

Location
St Andrew's Hotel lies slightly above the centre of Nuwara Eliya, alongside the golf course - suitably so for a hotel with such a famous golfing name. Nuwara Eliya, an old colonial hill station, lies more than 6,000 feet above sea level, a town rich in tea plantations and cradled amidst misty mountains. St Andrew's is an excellent base for exploring the delights of Sri Lanka's spectacular hill country. Nuwara Eliya can be approached via Kandy or Hatton. The drive from Kandy is about three hours.
Introduction
A property of Jetwing Hotels, known for its unique hotels across the island, St. Andrew's is a stately Tudor-style colonial mansion, built in the latter part of the 19th century. It blends in well with Nuwara Eliya's general outlook of determinedly preserving the feel of a bygone age. Standing alongside imposing pine trees, it has a rather stern exterior. But inside is a world of open fires, candlelit dinners and a well-stocked wine cellar. Staff is also praised for their friendliness. Those not particularly taken by cosy traditionalism may feel that some rooms would benefit from a sharpening up; others remain blissfully content.

The spacious Suites and Family Rooms are furnished with antique period furniture and are equipped with telephone, TV, mini bar and bathrooms with baths and h/w showers. Facilities
Sumptuous Sri Lankan and international cuisine is prepared at the show kitchen of the Old Course restaurant where guests can see their meals being prepared while dining on gourmet delights. Snacks and high tea is served at the outdoor garden café. A favourite here is strawberries and crème accompanied with a cup of hot Ceylon Tea. There is a well-stocked, wood-panelled bar with smoking as well as cocktail rooms. Other facilities include Room a TV lounge, gift boutique, Snooker, table tennis, Room Service, doctor on call, and IDD telephone facilities, fax and safety lockers at the reception. For children, there is a playroom and the hotel will arrange for pony rides. St. Andrew's has an in-house naturalist who will arrange guided nature treks and bird watching tours.
Excursions
Nuwara Eliya Golf Club was built by a Scottish soldier in 1889. The British influence is clear to see here and occasionally you may even feel you are playing golf back in the UK, but the course holds many features unique to Sri Lanka. You are in one of South Asia's most restful corners. The clubhouse and bar is an atmospheric place to enjoy a drink after your round. Other nearby activities includes horse riding, boating on Lake Gregory, bird watching and nature treks. For those interested in culture and heritage, there are several heritage mansions that are worth seeing, the Holy Trinity Anglican Church and the Sita Amman Kovil nearby. Children may enjoy a pony ride along the Race Course. Day's excursions are possible to Hortain Plains, Hakgala Gardens, or to a tea estate and factory.
