The Sri Lanka Travel Specialists
St. Andrew's is a stately Tudor-style colonial mansion, built in the latter part of the 19th century, and determinedly preserving the feel of a bygone age. Standing in attractive gardens alongside imposing pine trees, it has a rather stern exterior. But inside is an inviting world of open fires, candlelit dinners and a well-stocked wine cellar. Cosy traditionalism given a brighter makeover.
St. Andrew’s has 52 rooms located in the Golf Wing and Nuwara Eliya wing. Rooms have been upgraded with a brighter, more cottagey feel.
Superior Rooms: 40 superior ensuite rooms with shower have cable TV, wifi, IDD, hair dryer, individual heating, tea/coffee facility, electronic safe.
Deluxe Rooms: Seven deluxe rooms have the same facilities, are more spacious and have plenty of space with one extra large king sized bed and two single beds in the separate attic that comes attached to the room
Suite Room: Upgrade on the Deluxe Room.
GEM Suites: Offers some of the best accommodation in the hill country. Four poster bed, charcoal heater, a writing table and separate round table for private dining. The luxurious bathroom comes with a bath tub and shower. Thick curtains, woollen blankets and lush carpets complete the picture of cozy comfort. Plus all basic facilities in other rooms.
Sri Lankan and international cuisine is prepared at the Old Course restaurant where guests can see their meals prepared. Snacks and high tea at the outdoor garden café. There is a well-stocked, wood-panelled bar with smoking as well as cocktail rooms. Other facilities include gift boutique, snooker, table tennis, room service, doctor on call, fax and safety lockers at the reception. For children, there is a playroom and the hotel will arrange for pony rides. St. Andrew's has an in-house naturalist who will arrange guided nature treks and bird watching tours.
Jetwing St. Andrew's lies slightly above the centre of Nuwara Eliya, alongside the golf course - suitably so for a hotel with such a famous golfing name. Nuwara Eliya, an old colonial hill station which lies more than 6,000 feet above sea level. can be approached via Kandy or the southern highlands. The drive from Kandy is about three hours. Around six hours from Colombo, or consider air taxi options. You can also head to the south coast via a daily sea plane service between Hatton and Koggala.
