Cinnamon Lodge

Habarana, Sri Lanka
Luxury hotel banner
Cinnamon Lodge, located in Habarana at the heart of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle, offers a peaceful retreat in a 27-acre woodland next to a scenic lake.

The expansive gardens, home to tropical trees, waterways, and wildlife such as birds, monkeys, and squirrels, create a tranquil setting for this low rise hotel. The hotel’s traditional design, inspired by the ancient cities of the Cultural Triangle, features individual chalets set amidst the gardens and connected by winding pathways. The two-storey chalets, each with a verandah or balcony, offer a comfortable, relaxed stay, making it an ideal base for exploring the region’s cultural and historical sites. In addition to its natural beauty, Cinnamon Lodge offers a range of facilities.

The property includes a large outdoor pool, a spa for relaxation, and a well-equipped fitness centre. There’s also a variety of dining options, including both local and international cuisine, served in the hotel’s restaurant. The main draw for Cinnamon Lodge is nearby Sigiriya Rock, the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, and Dambulla Cave Temples. Other historical landmarks in the wider area include the 2,000-year-old city of Anuradhapura and the ancient Buddhist site of Mihintale, making Cinnamon Lodge a prime location for exploring Sri Lanka’s rich heritage. This is a fantastic option for those wanting comfort without needing anything too indulgent.

What we love

    • Comfortable and peaceful, this is a good value option for those wanting to be near Sigiriya and other ancient cities
    • Whilst it's not luxurious, there is every facility
    • We love the gardens
    • Cinnamon Hotels are forward thinking when it comes to sustainability
    • There are rooms, suites and cottages and therefore it suits a range of guests
    • It's low rise, so it doesn't feel huge or mass market

The property is a little tired, but we feel its rustic nature feels in keeping with the natural surroundings

There are often small groups staying at the property, but because of the large plot, this doesn't feel a big issue

It's a little larger than most boutique hotels that Red Dot suggest

Children are very welcome at Cinnamon Lodge, and there are numerous room categories to help to cater to their needs.

Located in Habarana, the hotel is situated around 4 hrs from Colombo.

What our travellers say

We went to Sri Lanka as a three-generation family of three. The superb trip was organised by Samanthie and the team and it's difficult to see how it could have been bettered.

Red Dot organised the most wonderful 3-week holiday for us. Samanthie built a trip around the amazing sights we had requested visiting, together with her own suggestions and a wide mix of hotels, which gave us the flavours of both traditional Sri Lanka and the sleek, stylish contemporary version of the country. Our Driver made the whole experience incredibly special for us.

I can’t thank Cherylle and the Red Dot team enough for their meticulous planning of our family holiday to India travelling through Rajasthan over Christmas. As a family of all adults, every suggestion from daily activities to hotel choices was simply perfect. We travelled through Delhi, Ranthambore (an unforgettable tiger safari!), Jaipur and Agra and I truly feel we experienced the very best of each destination while moving at a relaxed, well thought out pace

My partner arranged a holiday trip at fairly short notice to Sri Lanka with Red Dot on a recommendation, Samanthie was so patient & helpful with her suggested itinerary which we followed with some minor amendments. On arrival at Colombo we met Manjula our chauffeur/guide who was absolutely brilliant!

Dulmini and the Red Dot Team arranged a fantastic trip for us around Assam and North Eat India. Faultless service. I cannot recommend them more highly.

We looked up, and communicated with umpteen tour operators. Though Red Dot seemed to have offices in Sri Lanka and the UK, they seemed to have the best reviews. We were fortunate enough to correspond with Cherylle, who not only assured us of the safety of our friend, but created a personalised, and flexible, itinerary which we could not have done ourselves.

A 14-day tour with Red Dot Tours was the perfect antidote to the bleak UK winter. After a glowing recommendation from a friend, we contacted Red Dot Tours and were not disappointed. Our consultant, Lahiru, curated a seamless itinerary. Throughout the planning phase, Lahiru was incredibly responsive; the final itinerary—delivered via a user-friendly 'Guest Portal'—was impressively detailed, covering every hotel stay and excursion.
