PATA 2007
Chaaya Village Habarana won the 2007 Gold Award in the Environment / Ecotourism category presented by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) which is dedicated to promoting sustainable tourism in the region. Chaaya Village endeavours to provide its visitors, a travel destination rich in cultural and natural beauty, while ensuring that the eco-system or life style of the local population remains undisturbed. The 'Halmillawa Village Up-liftment' is a project of John Keells Social Responsibility Foundation and is implemented by Chaaya Village Habarana. Through this project, meaningful support that paves the way for gainful employment is provided to the villagers through training programmes in pre-school teaching, vocational skills development, youth development, empowerment of women, computer sills and English language training.

Media Review
Lonely Planet , Mar 2009
This nice place offers spacious terraced rooms with verandas. The restaurant looks over the swimming pool, and there are also badminton and tennis. The lakefront setting makes for easy bird watching before breakfast.
Explore Sri Lanka , Jul 2006
The rooms are extraordinarily comfortable and well-appointed…..for me the greater pleasure was the chance to enjoy the spacious open-sided bar while gazing through the woodland at the lake shimmering beyond….the hotel’s new swimming pool is irresistible…
Travel Sri Lanka, Vol 4 No 9
Chaaya Village is a very likable place. Apart from the delightful Ambarella drink, the fragrant Margosa soap and melodic flutist, with which I have a personal affinity, it is a homely and hospitable hotel where the unobtrusive staff makes it easy for guests to just be themselves.

Apr 11, 2007 : On my last night the staff came and decorated my bed with petals and a 'good luck' message which was a great gesture. Overall, a really wonderful stay, but personally it was too big a hotel for me

Feb 24, 2007 : Idyllic setting, beautiful pool, very nice room. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good choice of food. However, after twice finding a live caterpillar in the salad, we were told ``Yes, they live there.'' As everything else was perfect, we found this very funny.
SG - London
Dec 31, 2006 : Good location for access to other places in cultural triangle. Really nice to have tea and coffee in room and access to movies when it's raining.
