Day 1Upon arriving in Sri Lanka, transfer to the luxurious Wallawwa, a newly opened boutique hotel located just 15 minutes from the International Airport. This refurbished manor house is an ideal haven for acclimatising to Sri Lanka’s tropical climes and rejuvenating after the long flight. Relax and immerse yourself in a rejuvenating massage at the Z Spa.

Day 2, 3 & 4Travel to Sri Lanka's famous cultural triangle in the north central province where you will stay three nights at Heritance Kandalama. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Dambulla cave temple. The Sigiriya Rock Fortress built in the 5th century by King Kasyapa with ruins upon the huge rock, the wall frescoes, and the symmetrical royal gardens surrounding the rock are amazing feats of this period. Explore Dambulla’s cave temple just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Its rock ceiling is covered with colourful frescoes, some of which date back to over 2,000 years. This cave temple has the largest number of Buddha statues all housed in one place, including a 14m-long figure of the recumbent Buddha carved out of the rock. Explore Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka’s royal medieval capital. The fascinating ruins of this ancient city remain in remarkably good condition. The most impressive are the ancient sculptures of Lord Buddha at the Gal Viahara cut into Granite stone dating back to the middle of the 12th century. The entire sculpture consists of four colossal statues of Buddha - a samadhi image in meditation posture, a seated Buddha image inside a cave, a standing Buddha image which is 23 ft in height, and recumbent Buddha image measuring 46 ft, depicting the passing away. You might also consider a safari at Minneriya National Park when you visit Polonnaruwa or an adventurous elephant safari at Habarana where you’ll be taken on elephant back through a jungle trek and across shallow waters.

Day 5 & 6Today you journey to Sri Lanka's hill capital, the small lakeside city of Kandy, and check into the Kandy House, a beautiful and stylishly renovated old colonial mansion. Kandy House is located away from the town centre, but close enough to use as a base for seeing Kandy’s most memorable sights. In the evening visit the Temple of the Tooth where a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined since 4th Century A.D. The temple has decorative walls, a golden roof and fine woodwork. Religious services (pooja) are held daily at dawn, midday, and in the evening where guests can participate. The services are accompanied with traditional music and drumming. Other activities can include a visit to the Peradeniya Botanical gardens, with its orchid collection and formally laid-out trees; nature walks in Udawatte Kelle Forest Reserve; and Kandy’s rich ancient arts and crafts including drum making, Dumbara mat waving, and crafting Kandyan jewelry, and traditional Kandyan dance and drumming.

Day 7 - 20Today you travel to the southern tip of the island nearby the coastal village of Weligama where you will spend the next 14 nights at the Barberyn Beach Ayurveda Resort – a holistic wellness retreat where the balance of mind and body is achieved through the ancient philosophies of Ayurveda, Yoga and meditation. Surrender to this world of tranquility and healing. The soothing ocean breeze, sounds of birdcall, the flautist by night fall, Yoga at the edge of the sea, and the gentle touch of Ayurvedic therapists as they soothe your worries away – a rejuvenating experience that will fill you with renewed energy and vitality. Following an initial consultation with the physician on your first day at Barberyn, a wellness treatment plan is formulated and is caringly implemented through out your stay at this resort. The health of each and every guest at Barberyn is monitored meticulously and comprehensive records are maintained. The Ayurvedic herbal oils, medicines, tonics, and body wraps are prepared in-house using herbal medicines from Barberyn’s own gardens as well as from the villages. The idea of positive health also focuses on appropriate nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. The health centre doctors work closely with Barberyn’s chefs to provide wholesome and delicious meals and are ever willing to share healthy recipes with the guests. Vegetarian Sri Lankan and western cuisine is served here prepared with fresh fruit and vegetables from their own gardens as well as from the village market. Alcoholic beverages are not available here. Barberyn emphasizes positive health and the balance between mind and body through a combination of ancient philosophies including Yoga and Taichi. Classes are held daily in an open sided pavilion in the gardens at the edge of the sea. A Buddhist monk visits regularly to conduct guided meditation. The vast secluded beach in front of the resort is ideal for swimming during the season as well as for quite early morning walks. Watch the stilt fisherman, unique to the south coast, perched on a sturdy pole 20-50m out at sea. Explore the gardens scattered with palms, medicinal plants and tall fruit trees that attract many birds, butterflies and monkeys. Visit Weligama’s village markets and ancient Buddhist rock carvings at Kustarajagala nearby.

Day 21After two weeks of relaxation and rejuvenation, head back to Colombo for your final nights stay at the Villa Talangama, a luxurious villa set on a quiet lakeside, in the suburbs of Colombo. The villa setting is best described as a 'village in the city' surrounded by paddy fields, a lake and birds everywhere perched on the veranda, on trees, and on the buffalo that relax on the lakeside. The surrounding Talangama wetlands is a birder’s paradise with over 45 species of birds inhabiting this area along with the endemic Purple-faced Leaf Monkeys, water monitors and numerous species of butterflies.
