Location
The Hantane Shadow Resort is a new hotel situated at the edge of a forest reserve in Hantane on the outskirts of Kandy. A short drive into Kandy provides an insight into the Kandyan Kingdom, the last independent state in Sri Lanka, which withstood the onslaught of three invading European armies for over two centuries. This famous city is steeped in Sinhalese history, Buddhism, folk art, traditional dance and pageantry. Kandy is about a 4 hour journey from Colombo's international airport.
Introduction
Situated within the heart of nature, surrounded by Sri Lanka's tropical wilderness, fauna and flora, birds and butterflies, the Hantane Shadow Resort seeks solitude rather than sophistication and is an attractive spot for those wanting a tranquil and comfortable spot free of many of the trappings of modern life. Although the ensuite bedrooms lack character, they are clean and pleasantly furnished; with a number of the rooms having balconies from which you can enjoy the hullabaloo of the jungle. The small swimming pool is a great place to soak while gazing into the foliage above and the roof terrace is a popular location from which to enjoy a good book amidst a tropical setting. Hantane Shadow Resort is not a sumptuous, all-embracing eco-resort, but at this price it is a good selection for those on a mid-range budget who wish to relax amongst trees and discover the Kandyan surroundings.

Hantane Shadow Resort offers two different styles of accommodation - rooms and suites with air-conditioning, attached toilets with h/w showers, private balcony with spectacular view of the forest, telephone with IDD facility, and 24-hour room service.
Facilities
An in-house restaurant serves western and Sri Lankan rice and curry. A fully equipped Ayurvedic health center which taps on the ancient Ayurvedic healing science for total wellness and rejuvenation. Personalized therapy and activity programmes, designed to cater to individual needs and health goals such as distressing, detoxification and cleansing, relaxation, anti-ageing and weight loss, is provided under the expert guidance of the in-house Ayurvedic doctor.
Excursions
The surrounding areas of Hantane and Peradeniya can be explored on foot, with the higher altitude making the climate conducive to long walks. Only a tuk-tuk away, the city of Kandy is steeped in history and culture with much to see - the Temple of the Tooth where a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined, the scenic Kandy's lake, visit a gem museum and see how precious gems are cut, polished and set into intricate pieces of jewellery, enjoy traditional Kandyan dance and drumming, visit Kandy's age-old Peradeniya Botanical gardens, with its orchid collection and formally laid-out trees and Orchid collection, and visit the British cemetery, where the tombs include that of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes.
