Rockside Cabanas is situated on a beautiful stretch of coastline not far from Unawatuna, a characterful coastal town which is a few kilometres to the east of Galle. Cabana style accommodation and guest house rooms are set amidst gardens scattered with swaying coconut trees and the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean just a stone's throw away. Colombo to Galle is approximately 120km and the drive from the airport usually takes about four-and-a-half hours.

The simplicity of cabana living can make a pleasant change from the sophistications of hotel or villa accommodation. Locally owned, the set up here is simple: good-sized wooden cabins are nicely spaced apart and perched on the sand, equipped with beds, balconies and bathrooms. With the feel of fine sand, the smell of sea air and the sound of lapping waves, this is very natural way to let go of the western world and discover Sri Lanka. Rockside also offers three double rooms within two guest houses located on the same premises.

There are three wooden cabanas with each consisting of a bedroom with double or twin beds and an attached bathroom with saloon-door, h/w shower, wash basin and w/c. There is very little in the way of furniture and decoration, but you can relax on your own private verandah with great views of the Indian Ocean. There are also three guest house rooms on offer located on the upper floor of two separate guest houses located on the same premises. The guest house rooms are spacious and have a/c. The ground floor of the two guest houses consists of a verandah and kitchen where guests can do their own cooking.

The restaurant serves Sri Lankan rice and curries. A small Ayurvedic centre offers massages. There are several cafes and restaurants a short walk away on Unawatuna beach. Safe swimming is possible in front of the property.

Experience Unawatuna's characterful lifestyle. Relax by the waters of the Indian Ocean, surf and snorkel, eat out at small cafes and restaurants, visit bars that come alive with music at night. Watersports include deep-sea fishing, catamaran and boat rides, surfing, and snorkelling. High on the headland of Unawatuna Bay is Rhumassala Temple. With beautiful views stretching out over the Indian Ocean a walk around the headland near the temple is very special. Famed for the natural medicinal herbs nearby you will walk through hidden villages and verdant wooded valleys eventually finding yourself on `Jungle Beach' - a little known and secluded beach. Galle's historic 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is just 15 minutes away. Hours can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and British period buildings still in use, the sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, and a growing collection of art galleries, antique shops, cafes and restaurants.
