The gateway to the south is the historic town of Galle. Do not
forego the historic Fort area, which has become a haven for
craft shops, museums, art galleries and which houses a select
collection of wonderfully renovated hotels and villas.
Galle town and the south coast took a battering during the Boxing
Day tsunami, yet this idyllic stretch of coastline, studded
with sandy coves, is determinedly fighting back.
Accommodation choices tend to be more intimate here –
luxury villas vie for attention with independent cabana-style
properties. True tranquillity.
