Galle Fort is one of Sri Lanka’s special places. Stroll through the 'new' English gate or the 'old' Dutch gate and you enter a different country. Largely built by the Dutch during the 18 century the Fort is another of Sri Lanka's World Heritage sites. Some 600 houses, many of them splendidly renovated, share the ancient narrow streets with a growing number of craft and art shops. The walk along the ramparts to watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean is a timeless joy.

Built in the early 1800s this family home, originally occupied by a merchant and his mistress, has recently undergone a complete transformation courtesy of its Hong Kong-based owners. Many original features have been restored, but the overall feel is of a comfortable family retreat.

Named after the Giant Coconut tree which stands in its garden, Thambili is a three-storey villa, nicely positioned on the edge of the Galle Fort coastline within a short-distance walk of the historic sites, bars and restaurants. Within is a spacious and warmly decorated living room, the back of which leads to a little garden and a kitchen. Three bedrooms are found upstairs. This villa is an exciting prospect which is highly suited to a small group or family.
