Location:
Auraliya, a newly built luxury beach villa, is situated
just south of Thalpe, a fine stretch of coastline a few kilometres
south of Galle that has attracted some of the island’s
most exciting villa developments. The journey from Colombo
takes around three-and-a-half hours. Allow an extra hour from
the airport or consider taking the Air Taxi, which offers
daily scheduled flights from Katunayake International Airport.
Description:
Auraliya is a large six-bedroom luxury beach villa
on a lovely safe swimming beach, ringed by a protective coral
reef. Ideal for families, the villa is cleverly designed in
a courtyard shape, around a deep blue swimming pool and central
chill-out area and formal dining area. The floors and walls
are light with polished white terrazzo and high ceilings are
used extensively. The result is an airy, cool, and fresh feel.
There is a large garden with frangipani trees and coconut
palms adding to the spacious feel and overlooking the sea
there is a small ambalama-style bar ideal for sundowners.
Accommodation:
There are four double bedrooms and two twin rooms. All bedrooms
have spacious en suite bathrooms, all tastefully designed
with a white terrazzo finish and modern fittings. The master
bedroom has an enormous terrazzo bath tub for relaxing soaks.
The two main bedrooms have louvered windows that look out
of the Indian Ocean. The other rooms look in towards the swimming
pool. All rooms are airconditioned and have four-posted beds
with fitted mosquito nets.
Facilities:
Other facilities include an a/c sitting room, an open-air
dining pavilion overlooking the swimming pool, a fully-fitted
kitchen and a chill-out pavilion with a cushion corner for
lazy afternoons. The villa is staffed, the team led by Sunny.
There is a cook, a general houseboy, room girls for cleaning
and a nightwatchman. There are a number of beach bars and
restaurants in the area.
Excursions: Numerous watersports are on offer
in Unawatuna and Mirissa including sailing, fishing, coastal
cruises, river trips, sea kayaking, snorkeling and boating.
Koggala Lake with its many islands inhabited with several
species of birds, is another wonderful experience. We recommend
a visit to the historic 17th Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage
Site with narrow streets lined with Dutch and British colonial
era buildings which are still in use, sturdy ramparts looking
out to sea, the lighthouse, and a growing collection of art
galleries and several boutique hotels. Day trips can be organized
to Sinharaja Rainforest and Yala National Park.
