Location: If Villa is perfectly located for
a satisfying beach holiday. It is perched on a beautiful beach
on the Galle coast and when even the most avid sun worshipper
gets itchy feet, the historic town of Galle – one of
the largest 'living' forts in the world – is only a
few kilometers away. The journey from Colombo takes around
three-and-a-quarter hours. Allow an extra hour or so if you
are travelling from the airport or consider the Air Taxi,
which offers flights from Katunayake International Airport
to Koggala which is just ten minutes from IF Villa.
Description: This magnificent colonial Dutch
house is set in a large tropical garden and faces south over
a beautiful stretch of sandy coastline. The villa resembles
a Southern walauwa -- or ancestral home -- with columns and
verandahs, a central courtyard, and sprawling gardens. Enter
the villa via an open courtyard which leads to a large sitting
room and on to wide, covered verandas with breathtaking views.
A manicured lawn acts as a natural boundary between the main
part of the villa, housing the bedrooms and sitting room,
and the dining pavilion and separate kitchen. The villa has
its own private entrance to the beach, which thanks to the
protection of a natural reef offers some of the safest year-round
swimming on the south coast, making IF Villa a perfect holiday
getaway for families with children. The large garden is also
an ideal setting for a family wedding.
Accommodation: IF Villa has five a/c bedrooms,
three doubles and two twins. Ensuite bathrooms have h/c water
showers, twin washbasins and w/c. All the rooms open out to
the garden and some also open onto the central courtyard.
The rooms are tastefully furnished with canopied four poster
beds.
Facilities: There is a large sitting room
with comfy sofas. In addition, the covered verandas are decked
out with planter’s chairs and an outdoor seating area
is perfect for lazing under the sun. The dining table is located
in a separate dining pavilion. It has its own seating area
for pre-dinner drinks and can be laid for ten. There is a
well-equipped kitchen and large BBQ. A small shaded seawater
plunge pool is located near the front of the house. The staff
includes a full time cook, three housekeeping staff, gardener
and night watchman who are all helpful and attentive.
Excursions: There are several beautiful beaches
to explore and you can also adventure inland to see the natural
and serene splendor of the south’s rural countryside.
Visit Galle’s Dutch Fort, a UNESCO protected World heritage
site. Day trips to wildlife parks can also be arranged.
