Location:
Mount Cinnamon, a large contemporary four-bedroom
estate villa, sits on top of a hill with dramatic views towards
the Indian Ocean. This south coast villa is situated a couple
of kms inland from Mirissa beach, one of the most beautiful
crescent-shaped bays in the island. The journey from Colombo’s
International Airport will take approximately five hours -
or take the Air Taxi and fly to Koggala, which is a 15-minute
drive away from the Villa.
Description:
Mount Cinnamon at Mirissa Hills is designed by the
renowned Sri Lankan architect, Anjalendran. This four-bedroom
inland villa, blessed with surrounding breathtaking views,
is contemporary in design with uncluttered interiors. The
tranquil and modern surroundings are as suited for yoga and
meditation as they are for a brainstorming retreat for business
executives. The layout of the villa is characterized by open
spaces, high ceilings, terrazzo floors and glass-sliding doors.
The architect has ensured that the panoramic views can be
enjoyed throughout the villa – from the bedrooms, on
a terrace reclining in a planter’s chair, whilst soaking
in the bath tub, or even while cooking in the kitchen. Up
to eight adults can be accommodated. There is also a smaller
bungalow just a few yards away down the hill - Mirissa Hills
Bungalow -- run by the same owners, which can accommodate
additional guests for a group event. That is profiled elsewhere.
Accommodation:
Mount Cinnamon has three double rooms and one single bedroom,
all with private terraces and wonderful views. Each room has
an ensuite shower, hot and cold running water and locally-made
cinnamon soap. Bedrooms are furnished with comfortable beds
using local fabrics. All bedrooms have a/c as well as overhead
fans and mosquito nets if you prefer to open the windows and
let in the sea breeze.
Facilities:
The sitting and dining rooms open to a manicured
lawn and views towards the breathtaking Weligama and Mirissa
Bays. On the other wise is a courtyard and a deep blue swimming
pool. The villa is decorated with local artwork. A well-equipped,
modern kitchen is available for budding chefs; alternatively,
an in-house chef will prepare Sri Lankan rice and curry or
Western dishes using homemade condiments and fresh fruit,
vegetables and seafood. The tranquil surroundings are ideal
for yoga and Red Dot can organize a private yoga teacher with
prior notice. The manager, Tilak Gamini, and his staff are
on hand whenever necessary.
Excursions:
The plantation and the newly-renovated Cinnamon museum
provide an interesting on-site excursion. Otherwise the beaches
are the main appeal: Mirissa, Unawatuna and Weligame to name
but a few. The villa owners also own a small stretch of private
beach offering safe swimming. The historic Galle Dutch Fort
is located twenty minutes drive from the bungalow. This UNESCO-protected
World Heritage site is a melting pot of cultural influences.
Several hours can be spent wandering along narrow streets
and around the sturdy ramparts overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Several boutique hotels within the fort offer fine dining.
Day excursions are possible to Sinharaja Rainforest, Uda Walalwe
National Park and Yala National Park.
