Location:
Situated on a small peninsula to the west of Tangalle,
Peace Haven is a three-bedroomed private villa built at the
back of an expansive and beautiful grassland, not far from
the sea. Colombo to Tangalle is 195km and driving directly
from the airport will take at least six hours, making a stopover
en route highly desirable.
Description:
Although the grounds of the property are vast and
open, extending over more than 40 acres, the villa itself
is simple and cosy. The entrance to property can be found
immediately off the main road leading west out of Tangalle,
but by the time you have wound your way along the drive, past
coconut palms and grazing cattle, the villa itself is nicely
secluded.
Accommodation:
The three a/c bedrooms are well furnished and have ensuite
bathrooms with h/w showers. One room has a four-poster bed
with another double available in an adjoining room. The other
two bedrooms contain a double and a single each, making the
full capacity of ten people for the whole villa.
Facilities:
There are a number of comfortable seating areas and
a long dining room table for meals. Other facilities on the
property are pretty limited. There is no pool and the private
beach is very rough, but if you want to go for a swim you
there are good beaches 15-20 minutes walk away.
Excursions:
Tangalle and the surrounding areas are renowned for its superb
unspoiled and undeveloped beaches but there are other attractions
nearby, including Yala National Park, one of the largest national
parks in the island where elephant and leopard can be seen,
a short 90-minute drive away. Sinharaja Rainforest, a magnificent
strip of virgin rainforest now protected by UNESCO, also provides
for a rewarding day out. Visit Rakuwa, a small fishing village
near Tangalle where a fascinating Marine Turtle Conservation
project is helping to save this endangered species. |
