Location:
Point Sud is situated about 40 mins south of Galle close to
Mirissa, one of the most idyllic stretches of beaches in the
island. Galle Fort offers shopping and restaurants and Matara’s
Dutch Fort provides sightseeing. There is a neighbouring temple
and further temples to explore inland. Day trips can be organised
to Yala National Park and Sinharaja rainforest.
Description: Point Sud is a fabulous new
cliff top villa that peers out across the Indian Ocean. The
creation of a loving husband as a gift to his wife, the villa
is a romantic and tranquil haven and real gem amongst Sri
Lanka’s portfolio of upmarket south coast villas. The
property has been designed with great sensitivity and skill,
as splendidly described by the UK’s Financial Times:
“A nod to the vernacular architecture in which only
local materials were used, crossed with a quasi-Palladian
facade, and the whole topped by a tiered, pagoda-style roof
floating above mock Corinthian pillars.” In short, the
overall impression is of simplicity with generous and uncluttered
use of space, including a magnificent terrace offering 180
degree ocean views.
Facilities: There are four ensuite bedrooms,
all with four-poster beds and airconditioned, leading off
from a large central living area. There is also a fifth twin
bedroom under the terrace which is suitable for children.
All the bathrooms have showers. There is a large sitting room
and also garden pagodas in which to relax. The garden is terraced
and there is a delightful infinity pool looking out onto the
Indian Ocean. Steps lead down a cliff to a manicured lawn
with a BBQ area and a private gate to the beach. There is
a modern kitchen of shiny granite, dark jackwood and terracotta
tiles housed in a separate block. A continental breakfast
is provided but you need to purchase food and discuss menus
with the resident chef for lunch and dinner.
Staffing: A cook plus three male staff are
assisted by one room-girl in charge of cleaning the rooms.
