The journey from Colombo’s International Airport will take approximately 4 hours - or take the Air Taxi and fly to Koggala, which is a 15-minute drive to Galle Fort.

This is an exquisite three bedroom two-storey villa that blends old world charm with modern living to provide a wonderful holiday experience in the heart of Galle’s 17th century Dutch Fort – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Colonial architectural features of high ceilings, arches and columns, timber floors and an old wooden staircase have been maintained and enhanced with elegant interiors that are light and airy. Antique Dutch period furniture is blended with comfortable sofas and soft furnishings in soothing neutral colours. Gaze out into the horizon through the living room windows upstairs, relax by the poolside amidst mango and frangipani trees, or wonder off along Fort’s maze of narrow by roads and discover a fascinating bygone era.
Accommodation:
Three airconditioned bedrooms – two doubles and a twin are all located on the upperfloor. All the rooms are elegantly furnished with four-poster beds dressed in crisp white linen and fitted with mosquito netting. The spacious master bed room has a raised bathroom with a bathtub and views overlooking the ramparts and the ocean beyond. The second room which is suitable even for children has two four-poster double beds, a TV with satellite channels and a DVD player. The third is a split level twin room with a private balcony overlooking the back garden and swimming pool. Second and third rooms share a beautifully laid out bathroom looking down through frangipani trees into the garden and has twin vanities, a bathtub and h/w shower. 25 Rampart Street can comfortably accommodate upto eight guests.
Facilities:
The ground floor consists of a lounge and library with internet facility, a washroom, and an elegant dining room with seating for 10 opening out to the back garden. A 10 metre swimming pool sits amidst a lush green garden with tall trees that attract many birds. Start your day off with breakfast in the outdoor pavilion by the pool or relax by noon on a sunbed in the gardens. An antique stairway leads to the cozy living room with the cooling ocean breezes flowing through and magnificent views of the ramparts. Tasty Sri Lankan rice and curries and simple western dishes are served here prepared with fresh seafood and vegetables bought from the local market. Discuss your preferences with Kanthi who is the chef cum housekeeper, and she will prepare your meals as well as do your grocery shopping. There is also a houseboy who does the cleaning and assists with other chores. A nanny can be arranged with prior notice.
Excursions:
Lying within the walls of the 17th century Galle’s Dutch Fort, 25 Rampart Street is an ideal base from which to explore the heritage of the old town. Hours can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and British period buildings, the sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, and a growing collection of art galleries, antique shops and restaurants. There are some fine beaches just outside the Fort, including Unawatuna, Mirissa and Hikkaduwa.
