Location: Situated in the heart of Galle Fort, Fort Printers has an
excellent location with the historic fort, scenic coastline
and many bars and restaurants all just a short stroll away.
Galle is 120km south of Colombo and driving direct from the
airport should take approximately 4 hours.
Description: In RedDot’s eyes, Fort
Printers is a wonderful, truly unique boutique hotel which,
having just opened in late 2005 with some very attractive
prices, promises to be an extremely popular place. With five
strikingly stylish, highly-polished rooms (one by the pool-side,
four upstairs), each of which is adorned with silky drapery
and slick furniture combining a wealth of Asian, European
and Oriental styles, Fort Printers has a particularly glamorous
feel, whilst still managing to retain that vital sense of
simplicity. Downstairs near the entrance there are two spacious
lounging rooms which display some of the building’s
historical artefacts. Once again the layout, furniture and
decoration are all carefully thought out, this time creating
a light, peaceful and sociable tone. Through these rooms can
be found the dining area, a neat little veranda beside the
pool which provides welcome shade by day and a romantic scene
at night.
Facilities: All rooms are air-conditioned
and have elegant en suite bathrooms which are equipped with
good showers, sinks and toilets. The pool is small and relatively
narrow, but perfectly good for the size of the hotel. The
restaurant offers an imaginative menu that seeks to use fresh
seafood and organic, local produce. A variety of breads are
freshly baked daily. Two dedicated chefs plan the menu for
the day based on guests' preferences, and lovingly create
delicious Sri Lankan curries, grilled fresh seafood and Mediterranean
inspired specialties. Breakfast usually includes fresh tropical
fruits, fresh fruit juices, home cooked cereals, eggs, fresh
curds and home made breads or any other special requests such
as frittatas, hot cakes or Sri Lankan hoppers.
