Location: Jungle Side, a new south coast
holiday house, is located just five minutes walk from the
beach at Wewelgoda just south of the youthful resort of Hikkaduwa
- one of the finest beaches on Sri Lanka’s beautiful
southwest coast. The drive from the airport takes approximately
four hours. The historic city of Galle is just 15 minutes
away.
Description: The bungalow, situated in a
lush tropical garden, is ideal for families and groups of
friends looking for good-value, self-catering accommodation
in the Hikkaduwa area. Surfers, attracted by the beaches famous
waves, will enjoy its location. The three-bedroom house is
spacious and furnished with modern conveniences.
Accommodation: There
are three large double bedrooms, one of which is ensuite.
The other two rooms share a bathroom with h/w shower, wash
basin and w/c.
Facilities: The furniture is crafted from
the garden’s own timber. The garden is also planted
with several fruit trees including banana, mango, papaya,
coconut and more. The ground floor houses a fully fitted kitchen,
dining area and open veranda. The first floor has a 54 foot
balcony with a hammock for lazy days. The second floor has
a sun terrace and star bar for long nights.
Excursions: Situated on the palm-fringed
west coat beach, and conveniently located close to many fun
filled experiences, Hikkaduwa has some of the best surfing
beaches and a wide range of water sports including diving
over coral reefs, snorkeling, and windsurfing. Bentota’s
lagoon is ideal for jet skiing, water skiing, and boat trips
along the river. Visit the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Project,
which is a pioneering effort in conserving the endangered
Marine Turtle species that come to nest in along the west
coast of the island. These coastal towns and villages also
share a vibrant cultural heritage including folklore, music,
and dance forms. Cottage industries such as basket weaving,
mask carving, and small shops selling Dutch antiques - furniture,
lamps and ornaments, makes for interesting way side shopping.
The historical town of Galle, with its 17th century Dutch
Fort, a UNESCO-protected World Heritage site, is a short drive
from Hikkaduwa and well worth a visit.
