Location:
Kaladiya is located in the heart of Raja Rata (King's Country),
an area steeped in history and culture, surrounded by shimmering
tanks (lakes) and verdant paddy fields. The bungalow, situated
in a 140-acre mango orchard in a small village called Dambewatana,
is a stones throw away from the picturesque Lake Kalawewa
and the adjoining Dambulu Oya river. Kaladiya is 170 km
northeast of the capital Colombo, 20km northwest from Dambulla
town and just 10km off the historic A9 highway.
Details:
Kaladiya is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional
country-style house. The three-bedroom house can be rented
as a whole or by the room. A tasteful blend of traditional
décor and modern comfort in an idyllic setting, the
house offers peaceful and timeless relaxation. The largest
bedroom with two queen size beds sleeps four persons and
has an ensuite bathroom. The second bedroom offers one queen
size bed and an ensuite bathroom. The third and final bedroom
also has one queen size bed. The dining and living rooms
look over paddy fields.
A long and spacious veranda furnished with “haansi
puttu” (easy chairs) provides ample space for both
mind and body. The accomplished cook will serve you delicious
Sri Lankan curries, but guests are also welcome to cook
for themselves in a well-equipped kitchen.
Facilities:
The bungalow has three tastefully furnished bedrooms with
antique four- poster beds and air-conditioning. There is
a herb garden, in which several important medicinal plants
used in native Ayurveda medicine are grown. The mango orchard
provides a perfect place for a stroll. The area is, of course,
surrounded by ancient sites – Sigiriya, Aukana, Sasseruwa,
Ritigala and Anuradhapura – and Trincomalee is just
two hours drive away.
