Accommodation
Silver Package
Thilanka
Hotel
Thilanka sits in the foothills of Udawattakelle nature reserve,
with most rooms offering a picturesque view of Kandy lake.
This 3 star hotel began life as a private house, built by
a wealthy Kandyan towards the end of the colonial era. It
has since been extended by a six-storey new wing with large
comfortable rooms and balconies overlooking the city.
Ceylon Continental
Sri
Lanka is famed for its geniality, and the Ceylon Continental
exemplifies it. Its warm welcome is striking for a 5-star
city centre hotel – and that matters. Restaurants are
passable; value for money outstanding.
Browns Beach, Negombo
Browns
Beach, established in 1970, was one of the first hotels to
be established in Negombo. Beach space was no problem then,
which allowed Browns the extravagance of idling over a 450-metre
stretch of prime sandy coastline. Excellent new management
has shaken Browns out of years of torpor and its welcoming
atmosphere and recent smartening-up has upped its appeal for
the mid-market package holiday crowd.
Heritance Kandalama, Dambulla
Mean,
moody and magnificent – Kandalama symbolizes the best
in Sri Lankan ecological design. It snakes along a rocky outcrop,
in a light tropical jungle, overlooked by Kandalama reservoir
and the Knuckles hills. Slightly formal, richly elegant.
Bronze Package
Chaaya Village, Habarana
Chaaya
Village is set in the middle of the Cultural Triangle, is
located in the quaint village of Habarana in close proximity
to the historic cities of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla,
and Sigiriya. Just rebranded and newly-refurbished, Chaaya
Village is a treat for those wanting to experience a taste
of Sri Lanka's unhurried and wholesome rural village lifestyle,
the rich cultural heritage and the tropical wilderness in
a hotel that offers luxurious living, good food and courteous
service. The property, set in an acre of gardens bordering
a lake, blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings amidst
tall trees and tropical foliage Numerous species of birds,
butterflies, monitor lizards and monkeys have all shared this
natural habitat with the surrounding villagers for centuries.
Blue Oceanic, Negombo
The
Blue Oceanic, with its Mediterranean feel, is a well-managed
mid-range property in a youthful resort. It gazes out onto
the best section of Negombo beach and is comfortably the best
three-star option on this section of the coast.
Sharon Inn
Sharon
Inn is a delightful guesthouse on the hillside overlooking
Sri Lanka’s hill country capital, Kandy. This property
is spotlessly clean, comfortable and well run by the Sri Lankan
and German owners. Good food and a relaxed atmosphere make
this a great guesthouse option in the town.
Colombo City Hotel
The traveller on a budget will be particularly attracted by
the convenience and value of the Colombo City Hotel. This
small, new hotel offers modern rooms at an appealing price
directly opposite the World Trade Centre in Colombo’s
city centre.
