NEWS UPDATE
Please note that Air Taxi services have been temporarily
suspended by SriLankan Airlines. We do not anticipate
services resuming in the immediate foreseeable future. |
SriLankan Airlines operate a convenient Air Taxi service that
dramatically reduces the travelling time between the major tourist
centres in the island. The journey from Colombo to Galle, for
example, which normally takes a minimum of four hours through
a traffic-clogged Colombo can now be reached in just 50 minutes
with a scenic flight.
The small 8-seater Cessna Caravan planes use waterways, lakes
and domestic airstrips to land and take off. Flights currently
run from Colombo to Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Koggala, Bentota, Dickwella,
Weerawila, Trincomalee, Anuradhapura, Hingurakgoda, and Sigiriya.
Flights between these centres can also be arranged.
There are three types of sevice available: a scheduled southern
service from Colombo along the south coast to Dickwella; an
on-demand point-to-point service between all destinations; and
a new island sevice called "Hop on, Hop off" which
allows you to tour the island using the Air Taxi.
The point-to-point sevice are scheduled according to passenger
requirements and subject to flight availability. A minimum of
four persons are required, although two people can fly if they
are willing to pay an excess charge. Flights are only operated
during daytime and in acceptable weather conditions. [Point-to-point
fares]
The scheduled Southern Coast service is ideal for single travellers
and couples. The service flys daily from Bandaranaike International
Airport at 0600 stopping at Benota, Koggala, Dickwella and Weerawila
(near Yala). The return flight -- very useful for connecting
to international flights to Europe -- arrives at the airport
at 1035. Note there is a 0900 flight on Wednesday's and a 1445
flight on Sunday's.
For travellers flying to Sri Lanka with SriLankan Airlines or
Emirates, special prices are offered on the Southern Coast service.
A one-way flight from Colombo to Galle costs just £50.
However, the flight must be booked at the same time as your
international flight. Contact us now for further details.
The new "Hop on, Hop off" service is an exciting development
which allows travellers to use the Air Taxi like a bus. Three
times a week the Air Taxi circles the island in a clockwise
loop. You are able to purchase a ticket that allows you to use
up to four legs for £555 per person. This is perfect for
those wanting to explore the island in a short time period.
