Domestic Air Travel: Traveling around Sri Lanka is
a frustratingly time-consuming process. The roads are poor
and often congested. Even small journeys can take a very long
time. For example, the 110km drive from Colombo to Galle takes
3.5 hours during the day. Fortunately, new domestic air services
are now being offered:
Sky Taxi: SriLankan Airlines have set-up
a wonderful new Sky-Taxi service modeled on the Maldives using
cute 8-seater seaplanes that can land on small airfields and
lakes around the island. The current service is not scheduled
and thus can be expensive for individuals or couples because
of a minimum fee equivalent to four passengers. SriLankan
are also offering scenic tours to Cultural Triangle, the hills
and along the south coast. Planes can also be chartered. A
scheduled service may be launched in the near future in peak
season.
