Sri Lanka is the second largest exporter of tea in the
world, outdone only by India, and in the form of companies
like Dilmah, is modernising tea’s image to counter
coffee’s increasing domination.
Tea was introduced to Sri Lanka around 1850 because of
coffee blight. Bushes over 1000m produce the best flavours.
Several tea factories offer guided tours which explain
the whole process of tea production, as well as offering
the chance to buy the best grades of tea. |
