SriLankan Airlines has launched an exciting new Sky
Taxi service that dramatically reduces the traveling
time between the major tourist centers in the island.
The journey from Colombo to Trincomalee, for example,
which takes six hours by road, can now be completed
in just 45 mins.
The small 8-seater Cessna Caravan planes
use waterways, lakes and domestic airstrips to land
and take off. Flights currently run from Colombo to
Kandy, Koggala, Bentota, Trincomalee, Anuradhapura,
Hingurakgoda, and Dambulla. Flights between these centers
can also be arranged.
Flights are scheduled according to
passenger requirements and subject to flight availability.
A minimum of four persons are required, although two
people can fly if they are willing to pay an excess
charge. Flights are only operated during daytime and
in acceptable weather conditions.
The costs are reasonable. A flight from Colombo to Kandy
or Koggala costs GBP 95 per person (subject to change)
if booked in conjunction with a UL flight. For details
