Location
Perched on its own white sandy island in Kaafu Atoll, Chaaya Island Dhonveli offers a range of accommodation with magnificent sea views. Kaafu Atoll is popular for its world famous surf point known as `Pasta Point’. Dhonveli is a paradise for water sports lovers.
Introduction
A sister property belonging to the reputed John Keells company of Sri Lanka, Chaaya Island Dhonveli was opened in 2007. The luxurious bungalows and villas are all located on the beach front or right on the waters of the Indian Ocean. Several restaurants, bars and cafes serve a range of international cuisine. Relax with a massage at the Wings Spa or be more active with watersports or an island-hopping excursion.
Accommodation
There are several accommodation options offering beach frontage or situated on the water. All bungalows, villas and suites are stylish and equipped with all modern amenities. All have a/c, mini-bar, satellite TV, IDD telephone, tea/coffee making facility, and safe.
Beach Bungalows: Forty beachfront bungalows consist of two separate rooms furnished with a double bed, day bed, and wardrobe. The ensuite bathrooms have a bath tub and h/w shower.
Water Bungalows: These 36 luxurious water bungalows are situated on the water with magnificent sea views, on the south-west of the island. Each bungalow has a spacious outdoor deck with dining table, sun loungers, and bathroom with h/w shower, and Jacuzzi. The bedroom is furnished with a king-sized bed, day bed, dressing table, and wardrobe.
Over Water Suites: There are 24 luxurious Over Water Suites situated on the wate in the north-east of the island. The suites are spacious and has a separate bedroom with king size bed, living space with a day bed, outdoor deck with dining table and sun loungers, and bathroom with jacuzzi and h/w shower.
Vista Suites: There are just four exclusive Vista Suites located on the beachfront. These spacious two-storey bungalows are ideal for families. The upper floor consists of a bedroom with balcony facing the beach and the lagoon. The sitting room below can be converted into a second bedroom and opens out to spacious outdoor deck with dining table and sun loungers. The open-air bathroom has a mini-garden and bathtub with cascading waterfall, Jacuzzi, and h/w shower.
Superior Rooms: The 24 Superior Rooms are designed in blocks of six (three downstairs and three located upstairs) and all have sea views. Situated close to the diving school, the Superior Rooms are ideal for diving enthusiasts. Rooms are furnished with double bed, wardrobe, and day bed. The bathroom has bath tub and h/w shower.
Facilities
Chaaya Island Dhonveli has several restaurants. These include: Rehendhi, a fine-dining garden restaurant by the lagoon; Koimla, which serves international cuisine buffet style; Raiyvilaa Sunset Terrace Bar and Restaurant, which has magnificent sea views; and Maakana, whuich has a view of the surf break and features cooking stations where guest can watch the chef at work. Nightly entertainment includes a disco, live band, cultural performances and karaoke. The Wings Spa offers a range of Javanese, Balinese, Maldivian and Ayurvedic rejuvenating massages and therapies. Other hotel facilities include a swimming pool, tennis courts, badminton, beach volleyball, indoor-games, and a diving and watersports centre offering surfing, snorkelling, canoeing, kayaking and pedalo.
Excursions
The Indian Ocean waters surrounding the numerous islands of the Maldives has over 200 different species of coral growing in its waters which is home to numerous species of underwater life forms. The best time for underwater exploration is during the season from June to October or December to March. Other adventurous activities include island hopping to nearby Kuda Bandos, Himmafushi and Huraa Island, sunset and night fishing, dolphin watching, and a tour of the country’s capital city, Male.
