Location
Situated on the banks of the vast Vembanad Lake, Kayaloram -- meaning 'Lake Front' -- is a charming 12-room resort set in an utterly tranquil setting. Kayaloram is 15 minutes from Alleppey town and is accessible by road and by boat through the backwaters. Alleppey is 90 kms from Cochin airport and 150 kms from Trivandrum International Airport.

Set on a coconut grove and located at the confluence of the mighty Vembanad Lake and the Arabian Sea, Kayaloram Heritage Lake Resort prides itself on providing an authentic Keralan experience. Accommodation is in heritage cottages which date back centuries. Relax on your verandah and watch the Kettuvallams -- traditional rice barges that have been converted into houseboats -- as they meander along the backwaters or relax with a rejuvenating Ayurveda massage at the wellness centre. Kayaloram has been classified as a Heritage Resort by the Government of India.

Accommodation
The 12 heritage-style a/c cottages bring back to life an ancient form of Kerala architecture known as `Therawads’ (old feudal homes of Malabar). Made of timber with doors adorned with brass and intricate carved details, these centuries old heritage cottages have been caringly transplanted to its present site. There are five lake-front cottages and others have garden views. The interiors are simple, but well furnished with double beds and the ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers and garden area that is open to the sky. Each cottage has a private verandah opening out to the gardens or the lake.
Facilities
The Ayurvedic wellness centre is headed by an experienced Ayurvedic physician an offers rejuvenating as well as curative treatments. Special rates are offered to those undergoing curative treatments for periods of two to three weeks. Yoga and meditation is also offered on a daily basis. An open sided pavilion with lake views, houses the multi-cuisine restaurant. Other hotel facilities include laundry service, library, wi-fi internet facility, indoor games, and regular cultural events. For the more adventurous there is canoeing, backwater cruises in a traditional Kettuvalam, boating, fishing, and cycling.
Excursions
Alleppey, dubbed the `Venice of the East’, is a picturesque town with canals, lakes, lagoons and rivers that can be explored by boat. Alleppey is also famous for its coir industry, manufacturing of boats, and the traditional snake boat races which takes place each year during August to September. Manned by over a hundred oarsmen, these snake boat races are a spectacular sight. The most popular of these races is the Nehru Trophy snake boat race which attracts vast crowds. The region of Kuttanand which is described as the `rice bowl of Kerala’ is one of the few places in the world where farming is done below sea level. Explore the region with its rural villages, paddy fields, village bazaars and ancient temples.
