Location
Coconut Bay Beach Resort is a small mid-range hotel with a high and enviable view over Nellikunnu Beach in Vizhinjam just minutes away from Kovalam. The Resort is set on a four acre coconut grove with 25 individual villas – all with scenic views of the Arabian Sea. Kovalam is located about 18 kms south of Trivandrum and the international airport is just 30 minute away.
Introduction
Coconut Bay’s four acre gardens slopes down to the Arabian Sea with its 25 villas each with private verandahs that lets you relax and take in the beautiful sea views. Holistic wellness through the ancient healing science of Ayurveda is emphasized here along with mind and body relaxation through Yoga. Delicious Indian cuisine including Kerala rice and curries and Tandoori dishes are served here. Accommodation
Individual villas are all situated close by to each other in the main complex with a few in an area called Zambi’s place located on a cliff with panoramic views of the sea. The four categories of villas in the main complex include Deluxe, Superior Poolside, Superior, and Beach Villas. Zambi’s section consists of Villas, Zambi’s Place, and Beach Rooms. Other than the Beach Villas and Beach Rooms, all others are airconditioned. Each of the villas and rooms has attached bathrooms with h/w showers and private verandah with sea frontage. Interiors are clean and comfortable and equipped with twin or double beds, mini-refrigerator, IDD phone facility, and cable TV. There is also laundry and room service.
Facilities
The Ayurveda Centre which is `Green Leef’ certified and offers a range of relaxing and curative treatments supervised by an experienced Ayurvedic physician. Certification by the government is provided to hotels for their Ayurveda programmes based on facilities offered and staff training. The categories are the `Olive Leaf’ and the `Green Leaf’ with the latter being the highest in standards. Mind and body relaxation is provided through Yoga sessions conducted by a Yoga guru and held in an open sided pavilion with the sounds of the sea in the background. The seaside restaurant – The Gallery serves up traditional Kerala cuisine with other Indian specialties including Tandoori dishes. Don’t miss one of Kerala’s famous dishes - Pearl Spot fish cooked in a banana leaf. There is a well stocked in-house library and cultural programme including traditional music and dance performances are held over the weekends. There is a large swimming pool, with Jacuzzi and sundeck. Beach beds and umbrellas are provided for those wishing to lounge on the beach, where a lifeguard patrols during the day. Safe swimming is possible just in front of Coconut Bay Beach Resort during the season from November to April. Snorkeling equipment and life vests are available for those wishing to go out to sea on a catamaran. Internet and money changing facilities are available at the reception. Coconut Bay is located just a few minutes walk along the beach from Thapovan – another excellent beachside hotel where guests can drop into have a meal.
Excursions
Go on a traditional Kattamaram (catamaran) ride with a fisherman or explore the backwaters on a houseboat where rural village life unfolds. Fisherman tending to their Chinese fishing nets, Cormorants and Brahmini Kites diving down into the waters in search of their catch, village women working at their coir mills, and the chatter of waving children as your boat passes by – all sights and sounds of the backwaters not to be missed. For those interested in traditional arts and heritage, visit the Napier Museum and the Sree Chithra Art Gallery located in the city of Trivandrum about 15 kms away.
