Vivanta by Taj Kovalam is situated on a 10 acre hillock scattered with swaying coconut palms, flowering gardens, a tranquil lake and the Arabian Sea at the edge of the property. This is a luxurious Balinese style Resort that offers a unique combination of a beach resort , a backwater escape and a hill retreat. Kovalam is a small fishing village with a golden strip of beach just 16 km south of Kerala’s capital city Trivandrum. The Taj hotels with 39 properties in India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, is famous for their renowned service and creating memorable holiday experiences. The journey from the International airport is about 30 minutes.
Introduction
Vivanta by Taj Kovalam is a tropical oasis with meandering pathways that leads to 59 luxurious hillside cottages built with granite stone and elephant grass thatched roofs each with private balconies that allow for views of the ocean at a distance and the terraced gardens. The interiors are tastefully decorated in earthy tones, Indian art, and luxurious fabrics. The main hotel and the cottages are situated on the hillock away from the coastline. A ten minute motorized buggy ride takes you downhill past the tranquil lake to their private strip of beach where you can laze around, play a game of beach volleyball or dine under the stars.

There are 59 hillside cottages with private balconies over looking the lush landscape, the lake and the sea beyond. There are 42 Superior Garden View Rooms; 8 Superior sea View Rooms; 8 two-bedroom Suites with private balcony and garden; and a spacious Presidential Suite with a private pool and sundeck. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms, internet access, IDD phone facilities, satellite TV, DVD player on request, laundry service, and 24-hour room service.

Sumptuous traditional Indian cuisine is served at the Curries specialty restaurant which also has a wine cellar with a wide selection of foreign and local wines that a fast becoming popular. The poolside coffee shop – Jasmine Bay offers international cuisine and the Cabana by the sea offers authentic coastal cuisine including exotic seafood dishes from regions such as Malabar and Travancore. Neera and the Reefside beach bar offers a range of Indian and foreign wines and cocktails. Relax by the infinity pool or spend a lazy afternoon in the outdoor Jacuzzi set amidst flowering gardens. Pamper yourself at the magnificent Aromatherapy Spa with its cascading waters, soothing music and signature treatments or the Ayurveda Spa that offers a range of relaxing and wellness therapies using the ancient healing wisdom of Ayurveda. Yoga and meditation are also offered. Other recreational facilities include tennis, putting green, archery, fishing and boat rides, indoor games, children’s activity centre, business centre, conference and banquet facilities, and a Resort Boutique.
Excursions
Experience the backwaters of Kerala located just 7 kms away where guests are taken on a cruise in a houseboat. Fisherman tending to their Chinese fishing nets, Cormorants and Brahmini Kites diving down into the waters in search of their catch, rural women working at the coir mills, and the chatter of waving children as your boat passes by – all sights and sounds of the backwaters not to be missed. For those interested in traditional arts and heritage, visit the Napier Museum and the Sree Chithra Art Gallery located in the city of Trivandrum about 15 kms away.
