Location
A mid-range 27 roomed beach side hotel situated at the edge of Papanasam Beach at Varkala, the Hindustan Beach Retreat offers comfortable rooms with sea views, excellent local cuisine and great service. The hotel is situated along the south west coast just 55 km north of Trivandrum.
Introduction
A four-storey, newly built property situated on a narrow strip of land with beach frontage, the Hindustan overlooks the sacred Papanasam Beach believed by the Hindus to clear the body and soul of all sins. Many pilgrims can be seen here being blessed by Hindu priests on this beach. The stretch of beach just beyond is good for swimming during the season form October to March. With very much of a local touch, the hotel prides themselves on the interiors which are done using vibrant handloom fabrics that the owners themselves produce in their textile factories in Kannur. Sumptuous Kerala cuisine using a blend of home made spices, great service and a homely ambience keeps true to their motto of helping guests to `experience the art of slowing down.’

Accommodation
The well appointed 27 rooms and suites all have magnificent views of the Arabian Sea. All rooms are comfortably furnished with twin or double beds and have satellite TV, telephone, mini-bar, coffee / tea making facility and wifi internet connection. The ensuite bathrooms have bathtubs and h/w showers. The standard rooms are furnished with twin or double beds. The spacious Executive Suites have a lounge area and private balcony overlooking the sea.
Facilities
A bar serving a range of local wines and other beverages as well as a seafood specialty restaurant, is located on the roof top with panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. Fresh seafood bought daily from the local fisherman is prepared to your liking here. The poolside restaurant on the ground floor serves sumptuous local cuisine as well as a few Chinese and western dishes. The swimming pool is located on the terrace overlooking the sea. There is also a small Ayurveda centre offering relaxing massages, a rooftop conference facility, and gift shop selling colourful handloom bags, yoga mats, and cushion covers produced in Hindustan’s own textile factories.
Excursions
Discover the interesting history of Varkala. Go down to the beach and observe the `Shraadh Pujas’ (sacred devotions) as it happens each morning on the beach. Just up the road is a 2,000 year old shrine of Lord Vishnu, the Janardhana Swamy temple, and the Sivagiri Mutt – the final resting place of Sree Narayana Guru who was a great social reformer of Kerala. The hotel also organises boat rides along the charming backwaters where rural life unfolds.
