Location
South Goa’s The Leela Kempinski is set back from the beautiful Cavelossim beach, next to the River Sal. Where the River Sal meets the sea to the south of the hotel, the property is cut off from public land meaning the beach is as close to private as you can get in India, creating a quiet secluded beach to be enjoyed solely by the hotel guests. The Leela is 45km (1 hour) from the airport and 50km from Panjim (1hr), the capital of Goa.
Introduction
The Leela Kempinski is part of a successful chain throughout India that was previously associated with Four Seasons. The magnificent entrance to the hotel, with its gold leaf painted dome and traditional welcome, gives you an immediate realisation that you are staying at one of the most beautiful hotels in India; with customer care there reassures you that it will be a comfortable, relaxing stay. The entrance and lobby area has been designed in the style of 13th century Vijayanagara empire (Hampi) architecture giving a temple like feel of holiness and serenity. This is combined with Portuguese-Goan architecture running throughout the hotel and villas. The Villas are built around three artificially constructed lagoons with fountains and rock water features, bringing natural beauty to your bedroom balcony, surrounding you with fresh water from the River Sal and the salt water from the Arabian Sea.

Accommodation
There are 186 rooms separated into 7 categories where a melange of Portuguese and Indian architecture has been beautifully brought alive in each of the spacious, elegantly furnished rooms. They all come with central air conditioning, plasma TV with satellite channels, DVD players and CD players, Wi-Fi internet connectivity and private balconies so that you can enjoy a relaxing breakfast or a romantic dinner. The hotel also boasts the deepest bath tubs in Goa and German technology showers – state of the art facilities. All rooms also have a lagoon view except the Royal Villas and Presidential Suite, which face the ocean and overlook the golf course. The hotel also has a private section to one side of the hotel for club suite members of which there are 15 suites. This area has its own entrance and is not accessible to other hotel residents, offering an even more secluded retreat for those that need the isolation. The club suite members have their own private swimming pool and restaurant and round the clock service from your personal butler. The suites have a huge floor space with bedroom, living room, changing room, bathroom, kitchen and outdoor area with an outdoor shower, some with private swimming pools and others with outdoor Jacuzzis.
Facilities
The hotel has 4 restaurants dotted around the property with the main one being The Cafe. The Cafe is an all day dining restaurant that serves a fusion of Western, Asian and local specialities. The restaurant has seating on three levels and looks out over the main swimming pool. The resorts signature restaurant is Jamavar which serves finest Indian cuisine within a lavish setting enhanced with intricate wooden screens and decorative Jamavar shawls. The Riverside restaurant situated on the water’s edge of the River Sal looks out over the boatyard and creates an al fresco dining experience specialising in Italian food. The fourth restaurant is Susegado which is a seasonal beach side barbecue and grill. Serving exotic cocktails, grilled and tandoor seafood and meats with live cool music open from 11am until sunset. The Yali Lounge is part of the emphatic Vijayanagara styled lobby area serving afternoon tea, cocktails and all kinds of drink. Admire the rich Indian carpets and ornate antiques handpicked to create the refined ambience of ancient India whilst overlooking beautifully landscaped waterfalls, tropical gardens and lagoons, with an enticing view of the ocean. The hotel also has an entertainment lounge called Aqua which has a state of the art discotheque and a bar lounge to enjoy live sport on television over a chilled drink. The hotel is spread over 75 acres of which most is beautiful landscaped gardens, water features and forestry with brightly coloured fauna and flora. Amidst the grounds is a 12 hole par 3 golf course, a large swimming pool, a cricket pitch, a Spa using Ayurveda treatments as well as Shirodhara and warm stone massages which are signature to the Spa. There is also a fitness centre with gym, water sports, parasailing, windsurfing, tennis, the gaming club, jogging track, 24 Hrs. room service, full laundry service, golf carts, and complimentary children's amenities.
Excursions
When you are not indulging in beach resort life, take an excursion out to explore around the town of Margao. Goa’s second largest town is a good place to feel the influence of 450 years of Portuguese rule as it forms the heartland of old conquests. As you approach Margao from the surrounding countryside, you notice the whitewashed baroque facades of colonial catholic churches standing beside the paddy fields and rivers. For a breathtaking view over Margao and the Arabian Sea go up to Mount Church, then stroll down into town where markets are the hub of trading fish and farming produce of Southern Goa. Perhaps visit the old stately houses of the Aquerim district and gain a sense for Goa’s spectacular colonial past.
