Location
Set in and amongst the dense coffee plantations of the Coorg district, Orange County presents itself as the first eco-friendly resort of its kind. The district is still only accessible via road, and takes you deep into the peaceful beauty of Karnataka via wooded hills and small Indian towns. Located in the Karadigodu region, the resort is a 5 hour drive from Bangalore and a 3 hour drive to/from Mysore.
Introduction
This luxury resort is part of a popular chain that has established itself in South India. The theme adopted in Coorg relates to the surrounding coffee plantations. Here you can discover how the rolling plantations of coffee and plantation culture introduced by the British in the 17th century have added colonial grandeur to this lesser-known hill station. Located 900 metres above sea level, the immaculate Orange County is above and beyond the bustle of Karnataka’s famous cityscapes. Instead, it finds itself positioned in proximity with the nature reserves of Dubare, Nagarhole, and Kabini.

Accommodation
The resort provides 75 thatch-roofed cottage rooms in total. Set back on the hill, looking down on the rice fields, are 20 county cottages available. With the choice of either twin or double bed, the cottage has a colonial feel to the interior and is built with a comfortable sit-out balcony where you can absorb the serene setting. Cottages have a colonial-styled wooden framing to their interior and are complete with a/c and ceiling fan, shower and bath facilities, cable TV, telephone, and mini bar. The resort offers 18 presidential villas which include a sitting room to the cottage, as well as an outdoor private swimming pool, complete with thatched parasol and sun loungers. There are a further 23 larger private pool cottages. These rooms accommodate a small, inviting infinity pool set in a private garden area that opens out onto the narrow hill valley view.
Facilities
The Ayurveda Village at Orange County is housed in a traditional ancestral Kodava house offers a wide variety of age-old Ayurvedic therapies and treatments. The centre is subject to booking and opens between 9am and 6pm. The resort also offers the Robusta Health Spa, complete with gymnasium, steam and sauna room, and Jacuzzi. The resort runs a Granary multi-cuisine restaurant serving buffet meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant looks over the resort pool, and is located amongst the social hub of the resort. Nearby is the Hunters’ Lodge bar, the children’s playing area, as well as The Pulper, which incorporates a library, quiet reading area, and indoor games room. The resort also has an in-house laundry service.
Excursions
Orange County runs a variety of tours out around the Coorg district every day. Light guided tours of the spice and coffee plantations are a popular choice. Resident naturalists run early morning bird watching nature excursions, as well as regular treks into the Dubare reserve forest. Fishing on the estate lake is also an attractive option, or for the more active, Rowboat and pedal boats are available for use on the lakeside.
