Location
Follow a winding coastal road that runs high over the rocky headland, and tucked 6kms away from Gokarna Town is the SwaSwara ‘wellness centre’, established just off Om Beach. The beach assumes this name because of its natural shape being similar to that of the Sanskrit symbol the ‘Om’ – meaning ‘God’. It is neighboured by the beautiful Kudle beach and Town beach on one side and Half-Moon and Paradise beach on the other.
Introduction
Sprawled across 26 acres of land, SwaSwara was established in 2006 as part of the `CGH Earth Group’ - a pioneering chain of family owned, eco-friendly boutique hotels across South India where heritage and ecological living reigns supreme. Accommodation
Each of the 24 villas is designed in Konkan style with an open-air, enclosed central courtyard, including a small water fountain, and an upstairs veranda with a partially open yoga deck that overlooks the sea. The split air-conditioned bedrooms look out onto the courtyard and open-air bathroom. Rooms are beautifully constructed with locally available laterite stones and roofs are thatched with coconut leaves.
Facilities
The resort runs a variety of yoga classes throughout the day, which vary in style from day-to-day. Guests are encouraged to leave any preconceptions behind and give this a go. For those interested, these classes include progressive and wellness Asanas, art yoga, chanting (trataka), and laughter yoga; these take place in the open-deck Yoga Shala building and the spectacular blue dome. Below the Yoga Shala is the resort’s own Art Gallery and studio for use, complete with artist-in-residence. The resort also offers a swimming pool, library and internet facilities. Ayurveda treatments and beauty treatments come well recommended at SwaSwara: after a brief consultancy, individual programmes can be designed for the duration of your stay. The enthusiastic kitchen staff leave their doors open for cooking classes for those guests looking to take some South Indian cooking skills home. Dine out in either the main restaurant, beach restaurant, or out on the pool deck.
Excursions
Aside from these on-site activities and Om Beach life, guest can branch out and fulfil whatever and explore the region. A day’s activities can include trekking in the form of a jungle trail, bird watching, mountain biking or an eco-tour. Take a local village walk or a wander into Gokarna town. Alternatively, take to the water and go kayaking, boating or rafting off Karnataka’s sublime coastline.
