Location
The hotel is just off the main bypass road 4km from the centre of Bijapur. The centre of Bijapur is noisy and busy which is why Hotel Shashinag is situated ideally in the peace and quiet of the countryside just outside the city. The Bypass road connects Bijapur with Badami which is 120km South West (3.5 hours) and with Hospet which is 120km south (3.5 hours).
Introduction
Due to the city being just off the popular tourist trail, Bijapur lacks a variety of hotels and has no high end accommodation. The more basic Hotel Shashinag is the best hotel in and around the city and will still provide you comfortable beds, spacious rooms and tasty local food. Outdoor garden seating shoots a view towards the city and catches the looming mausoleum of Gol Gumbaz. The hotel is more on the basic side though, and may lack some of the 5 star qualities Red Dot selected hotels offer.

The hotel has 20 deluxe A/C rooms that are spacious and all have an outdoor balcony, half of which look out across the garden and out at the Gol Gumbaz. The rooms all come with satellite television and room service can be requested 24 hours a day.
Facilities
The hotel has two multi-cuisine restaurants and a bar. The Jawahar Garden restaurant and the Deepa restaurant both serve a range of North Indian, South Indian, Chinese and continental food. There is also a swimming pool, a health club and a billiards room.
Excursions
As you arrive in the city, the Gol Gumbaz mausoleum dominates the skyline. This gigantic monument has the second largest dome unsupported by pillars after St Peters Basilica in Rome. The dome forms a sensitive echo chamber with a whispering gallery encircling the inside of the dome. Voices are said to echo hauntingly eleven times inside the chamber although it is the sheer size of the mausoleum that encapsulates one on entry. Elsewhere in the city there are some beautiful mosques and tombs to see such as the Ibrahim Rauza, Jama Masjid and the Gagan Mahal; all very much worth a visit.
