We will handle all your paperwork in advance so when you arrive we can just hand over the keys at the airport. Alternatively, if you want just for a short period, perhaps while staying on the south coast, we can deliver the car to your hotel. Our supplier offers an island-wide breakdown service and our office will always be there should you encounter any problems.

We offer four main categories of vehicles: compact cars (like Suzuki Alto), standard cars (like Toyota Corolla), deluxe saloons (Toyota Grand Mark) and 4WD jeeps/SUV’s (like Toyota RAV4 or Nissan X-trail). You exact car preference can be discussed with your consultant prior to your arrival, although the exact make you request cannot always be guaranteed due to availability within the fleet.

The booking process could not be simpler. Just use the Rent a Car price engine below to get an online quote. Choose the category of vehicle you want and add your pick-up and drop-off dates. If you are happy with the quote then click PROCEED and your enquiry will be sent to one of our consultants. We’ll quickly block the car, start organising the paperwork and finalise the pick-up/drop-off locations. Our quotes assume that the car will be collected from the airport and will then be dropped off at a hotel in Colombo or Negombo. If you want to collect at a different location then we may have to charge an additional fee to cover the fuel and driver costs for this. Your consultant will advise.

Foreign drivers in Sri Lanka need to have either a valid International Driving License or to obtain a Temporary Sri Lankan Driving License from the Registrar of Motor Vehicles (RMV) in Sri Lanka. We can obtain the latter in advance, saving you the time and effort of visiting the RMV on arrival. To do so we need clear scanned copies of your passport and driver’s license. Foreign drivers also need approval from the Automobile Association. Again, we will organise this in advance.

The minimum self-drive period is four days. You need to have a valid International Driving License or to obtain a Temporary Sri Lankan Driving License (see above). Note that rates are subject to change without prior notice. If rates do change due to reasons beyond Red Dot’s control you will be informed. Clients will be entitled to a full refund if they are not agreeable to the price increase. All clients must pay a security deposit of £250 repayable after the return of the vehicle. This can be paid by credit card or UK cheque.

Your car hire price includes a cumulative mileage of 80km per day. Thus, if you hire the car for a week, your mileage limit would be 560km. If you exceed this mileage then an excess mileage charge will be applied. This charge varies according the to the vehicle and your consultant will advise on booking.

The price quoted will include fully comprehensive insurance for the named driver. In the event of a breakdown or accident then we offer an island-wide recovery service. A repair vehicle will be sent to you from Colombo. If the vehicle cannot be repaired in less than 24 hours then a replacement vehicle will be organized.

Child seats are available on request, subject to availability. A £5 one-off charge will be applied. A country road map can be provided as well as an Ice Box.
