The Sri Lanka Travel Specialists
Cricket is a much loved sport in Sri Lanka that is played island wide. The Galle & Kandy School Cricket Tour is a memorable 10-day tour that will provide an opportunity for schoolboys to play on a selection of Test Match grounds. The tour also offers an educational experience with visits to the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala, the ancient Temple of the Tooth and Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort. We have also included a few days with the Foundation of Goodness for an enriching experience of interaction with a coastal community.
Red Dot cricket itineraries go through three simple stages: a Sample Itinerary (as below), which might meet your aims and aspirations for the most part and which can be adjusted as required; a Draft Itinerary, drawn up once an itinerary has been agreed upon in principle with all parties; and a Final Itinerary, which confirms your arrangements a few weeks before travel. Red Dot can also arrange for good quality tour cricket shirts and polo shirts for collection on your arrival.
All our tours are entirely flexible and can be tailored to your requirements. Our expertise in organizing Sri Lanka cricket tours over 15 years comes alongside the sort of sharp prices you would expect from a proven travel company based in Sri Lanka.
Arrive at Colombo’s International airport early on Day 1 - welcome to Sri Lanka! Head to the centre of this charming, compact city and rest and recharge by the pool. The following day is an Academy Day. Rest up in the morning before an afternoon of training and first-class coaching session at the NCC Cricket Academy. Spend your free time enjoying the sights and sounds of the island’s capital. Consider a trip to Cricket Club Café, the first stop for England cricket fans in Colombo.
MATCH 1 at the P. Saravanamuttu International Stadium, Murali's home club, which has a long international history. The ground is renowned for its large balcony dressing room and reaper-clad scoreboard.
Rise early and journey to Sri Lanka's hill capital – the lakeside town of Kandy. A trip to the Temple of the Tooth, where the tooth relic of the Buddha is said to be housed, and an encounter with elephants at the Millennium Elephant Foundation adds to the attraction of your visit.
MATCH 2 is at the Asgiriya International Stadium in Kandy, a one-time Sri Lanka international ground with great mountain views. In your spare time, visit the Temple of the Tooth where a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined. The temple has decorative walls, a golden roof and fine woodwork. Religious services with traditional music and drumming are held daily at dawn, mid-day and in the evening where guests can participate.
Head to the lively beach resort of Hikkaduwa on Sri Lanka's south-west coast. The first day offers a splendid chance to see one of Sri Lanka's finest charities, with cricket at its core. The Foundation of Goodness is based in the village of Seenigama just a few kilometres north of Hikkaduwa. This village was destroyed as a result of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami and redeveloped by the Foundation of Goodness charity, with the help of Surrey and MCC among others.
MATCH 3 at the Seenigama Oval is set in the school grounds. The wicket is a well-kept artificial one, with a well-tended outfield. As a part of the Foundation of Goodness programme, the cricketers will be interacting, learning and helping out the local village community in various capacities, giving a memorable insight into island life. By evening, head back to Hikkaduwa and enjoy the beaches and the laid back lifestyle of this coastal town.
MATCH 4 is at the Galle International Stadium with the 17C Dutch Fort looming large as a spectacular backdrop to this revamped international venue. This famous old ground was rebuilt after the tsunami, and received an outpouring of support and affection that confirmed it as one of the most loved venues in the world. Unsurprisingly, ground rental charges have risen to meet a challenging future – you may prefer to cut costs by playing your final game in Colombo instead - but the game has an undeniable resonance. On day 15, head up the motorway and your flight home from Colombo’s international airport.
