For those seeking wellness treatments, a yoga retreat or an escape from fast-paced urban life, Sen Wellness Sanctuary offers innovative, tranquil accommodation in a beautiful setting between Rekawa Lagoon and the Indian Ocean. Sen Wellness Sanctuary is comprised of a tall, circular main building with a light, spacious open-plan courtyard, and eight chalets with thatched roofs constructed in the same cylindrical shape, raised off the ground on stilts. There are also three rooms with shared bathrooms. A well-equipped Yoga shala sits amidst the tree canopy, looking out over the endless sprawling mangroves: yoga classes are offered in the morning and evening. Guests who are interested in the Ayurvedic package are recommended to stay a minimum of five days but guests can opt for shorter stays as well. Avisiting practitioner will offer more treatments, such as massages, and Sen Wellness Sanctuary specialises in treating osteopathic .
As well as the eight separate chalets, connected by a winding wooden walkway, there are three rooms with two shared bathrooms on the upper floor of the main building. Chalets have twin rooms on the ground floor, doubles on the upper. Rooms cannot be tripled. Each room has an outside decking area, fan, bed with antique-style headboard and mosquito net, intricate cupboards and wardrobe, seating, and ensuite bathroom with toiletries and h/w rain shower. Double rooms additionally have a beautiful domed ceiling with dark beams and a chest of draws with a mirror. Cots and high-chairs can be provided on request.
The central courtyard is open-air, decorated with a pond and small garden space and comfortable seating, a wonderfully tranquil spot in which to relax. The spacious, open-sided Yoga shala has changing rooms and overhead fans, and sits amongst the tree tops offering spectacular scenic views. Yoga classes are offered in the morning or evening. As well as the Ayurvedic programme and osteoporosis therapies, a visiting practitioner offers extra treatments, such as different types of massages. There is also a well-stocked library. Wi-Fi is available in the lobby – for retreats it is limited to one hour in the morning and evening. Traditional Sri Lankan cuisine is served with an Ayurveda twist, either vegetarian or seafood – there is no meat. There is a small relaxation area comprised of hammocks and sun loungers near the beach, just a short walk from the property, where marine turtles come ashore to nest.
Sen Wellness Sanctuary enjoys a truly peaceful setting positioned between Rekawa Lagoon and the sea, hidden at the end of a winding backroad which passes small villages surrounded by lush vegetation. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take approximately 4 hours.
