The Sri Lanka Travel Specialists
Surrounded by shimmering, emerald paddy fields just minutes from the beautiful tropical beaches, water-sports and lively dining spots of the Galle Coast, PALM strikes the perfect balance between a restful retreat and a convenient base for exploring the varied entertainment options of the area. This small boutique hotel has a striking modern design, inspired by the industrial warehouses of East London, underpinned by dramatic black metal structures, monochrome interiors and geometric shapes. A large reception / dining space is comprised of an eclectic assortment of sculptures, seats, tables and flowers, and spills out to a large swimming pool and the idyllic rural landscape beyond. There are eight cabanas or suites. A peaceful property for the young or young-at-heart, ideally suited to surfers or creatives seeking a tranquil spot just off the tourist trail.
Six rooms are housed in corrugated steel pyramids with white-washed thatched roofs and minimal décor, with each boasting a comfortable bed, seating and an open-air ensuite shower. There are also two spacious two-room suites set away from the main hotel areas.
Cabanas: These pyramids are spaced well apart throughout the sprawling garden, each with views across the surrounding agricultural land. Polished concrete floors and white interiors keep the cabanas cool, whilst the outdoor shower allows you to embrace the balmy tropical air as you bathe. Eco-conscious toiletries adorn the bathroom. Decoration is minimal, but these rooms are furnished with rattan chairs and a large king-sized bed.
Two-room suites: These elevated two-bedroom suites are great for families. Each room has floor-to-ceiling windows to let in the light and make the most of the views. One room has a king-sized bed whilst the other can accommodate two extra people and a crib. The central bathroom also has glorious views out across the paddy fields and boasts a powerful rain shower and elegant copper taps. Interiors are dark and cool.
As well as the outdoor swimming pool, PALM has a small gym and can run yoga classes on request. The dining arrangements at PALM are as relaxed as its atmosphere – guests can eat at any time from the all-day dining menu, which is comprised of contemporary takes on traditional Sri Lankan favourites, made using fresh local ingredients including some home-grown produce from the on-site vegetable patch. The large open-air main house is an enticing place to shelter from the heat of the day, and has been designed to bring guests together for creative conversation.
PALM sits on an undisturbed plot of land just ten minutes inland from the vibrant surfing beaches of Ahangama on the Galle Coast. Its rural setting of jungle and glimmering green paddies does much to inspire creative minds and encourages guests to slow down and absorb the peaceful energy of Sri Lanka.
