The Sri Lanka Travel Specialists
This experience takes place at the Primate Centre Lodge in Polonnaruwa. Dubbed as the Monkey Kingdom, Polonnaruwa is home to three diurnal primates: grey langur, purple-faced leaf monkey and toque macaque. Meet your host, Dr Dittus or one of his fellow researchers to discuss about the work of the Monkey Conversation Project, which is believed to be the longest-running primate study in the world. Under the protection of the Smithsonian Primate Centre, the monkey population of the medieval city has increased. Learn about the behaviour patterns of the primates and how they have increasingly adapted to human food, which has resulted in human-monkey conflicts. Relish your picnic lunch and listen to your host as he explains about the efforts of the conversation project to protect and nourish the monkey community in Polonnaruwa.
