The Sri Lanka Travel Specialists
This experience takes place at your host’s cottage workshop adjoining her residence. After an introduction to beeralu lace and its history tracing its roots back to the Portuguese epoch of the island, you can have a go at weaving a piece of beeralu lace yourself. Your host will take you through each and every step in weaving a piece of lace from sketching a pattern on a graph paper to winding the threads around wooden bobbins and twisting the threads around the pins. Your host will help you with twisting the threads around the bobbins and braiding the threads around the pins to complete your piece of lace. You will be assisted and shown necessary weaving techniques throughout the session.
